Angelito is cold hardy? Thought it was a CA seedling originally?I have few extra rooted cuttings that Im going to put in ground along with RDB, and Azores Dark, Dark Pourtugues and possibly Ondata and an Angelito and see how that goes.
I think we are no longer zone 5b in Chicago and definitely 6a based on last few winters.
Unless someone talks me out of this reasonably, its going to happen this summer.
Worst case…. Even if you don’t protect them they’ll just die to the ground and come back. I’ve never completely lost one.I have few extra rooted cuttings that Im going to put in ground along with RDB, and Azores Dark, Dark Pourtugues and possibly Ondata and an Angelito and see how that goes.

Im not saying it is, but willing to sacrifice a tree to see if it is. Im hoping its not as sensitive as everything else in CaliforniaAngelito is cold hardy? Thought it was a CA seedling originally?
Im not expecting anything above ground to survive and will prune all early fall, if I can have the rootball survive with thick mulch layer for protection, then thats good enoughWorst case…. Even if you don’t protect them they’ll just die to the ground and come back. I’ve never completely lost one.
It’s been pretty early for me so there’s that going for itIm not saying it is, but willing to sacrifice a tree to see if it is. Im hoping its not as sensitive as everything else in California
I decided to give it a try after years of passing on it, mostly because it's quite early.I'm a little late to this thread, but wanted to ask about flavor of Iranian Candy? I had the opportunity to add it to my collection this year but passed on it because 1) I have Latarulla and Peter's Honey here in Zone 7a, and I understand that both do well in this zone and 2) I've read some mixed feedback on the taste of Iranian Candy. I'm curious how the flavor compares to other good honey figs?

And who doesn't like some figs as early as possible.
So the flavor part I will have to wait.
But adding an early fig to the collection, a no brainier.
Lol don't take it the wrong way now.I've been accused of being brainless before. Agh! Maybe next year I'll accept cuttings when they're offered to me!
Pastilliere and campaniere are early, you have those?Lol don't take it the wrong way now.
I just love getting some early figs and if I can find more early ones I'm gonna add those too.
I like a nice mix of early, mid, & Late.
It is almost time for people to start selling rooted cuttings, maybe keep you eye out for one of those.
Thats odd mine grows like a monster, gave it a good pruning this winter, because it was 8+ ft tall in a pot.it may grow 6-8 inches a season ,see how small it is. this was late jully .only short new growth only three limbs.
I do, two of my favs!Pastilliere and campaniere are early, you have those?
I built this one about 5-6 years ago,it is 8x10 I know small but I am not big scale .I just want to be able to start a few fig trees early and my garden seeds.i have a florea and a Italian Letizia in ground in here,2 of the first trees I started with about 11 year olds now.The whole world is in love with Iranian candy. LOL and so am I. BTW do we have a picture of your High tunnel Greenhouse. I don't remember ever seeing one. I do love me pictures of greenhouses

in the winter I cut ingrounds off at ground leaving 2 nodes ,then I cover with wood mulch/bark.in the spring when leafing out if cold nights or days I will tarp with a tarp.my potted trees goes into crawl space that stays above freezing all winter usually 35-40 degrees FHow do you keep yours warm during winter?![]()
