Best Adriatic?

They aren't bronze colored. They have partial bronze and only when they are fully ripe. It's like sugar spots. There is patches or specs or something. This pic is from the figboss blog.

That is just like the sugar spots of Smith. Dark brown. Never bronze. All light skinned fig turn to that color when they are ripe.

Here it is a Sicilian White. Same brown skin color.

The Paradiso figs are another mess. The Paradiso Bronze should be somehow bronze. But most of the figs show green skin. Then we get the Paradiso Gene.

The Paradiso JM is another one. But it is a Brunswick type. So it seems Paradiso Bronze = Paradiso JM = Brunswick. But the naming has been totally messed up. How a bronze fig be green?

When you buy any fig, ask the sellers. Just do not buy based on the photos. Sellers may not even know what they are selling. They sell whatever on the tag of the trees that they receive. Then they make copies and distribute. The wrong names will keep spreading.

Not sure how Paradiso Bronze got its name, but it is does not equal Brunswick, IMO.

I never say Paradiso Bronze is Brunswick. But the naming is just wrong.

And Paradiso JM is not even a Paradiso. It should be called Paradiso Bronze, or even Brunswick.

Same goes with the Genovese Nero Robs. It has nothing to do with Genovese Nero. But people decided to keep that name.

Are you saying Paradiso Bronze is not bronze enough, so it is a Paradiso Bronze NOT? Paradiso JM is bronze enough, so it should be Paradiso Bronze. Paradiso Bronze = Paradiso JM = Brunswick, so Paradiso Bronze is Brunswick?

You just misunderstood.

Paradiso Bronze is not bronze. It should be called something else. Paradiso JM is bronze and it is a Brunswick. So it fits the Paradiso Bronze better.

There is an interesting new fig that is on figbid called "Madeira Verde". It was grown from a seed in California. One of the parents is White Madeira #1. He is not sure if it is common yet. Just thought I would let y'all know about it because it would be cool if someone on the forum tried it out. I already spent my allowance for figs this month and not sure that I want to spend the money on one that could turn out not common, but maybe someone here might want to try it.

That is a seedling grown by @MikeFons I don’t think it is going to be common.
But does look like a really good fig.

Smgg, harrys crete & strawberry Verte took a few seasons. They are a tad shy. WM1 waits not & fruits young and vigorously. Battaglia Green is tied for tops with WM1. Adriatic JH is also a beast but not all sources are created equal; gardencrochet provided a fantastic specimen unlike my former version tAdriatic.

I havnt had fruit from Mercedes Gem or Green Mich, but they share very similar leaf types compared to other adriatics. Without eating fruit I'm already thinking they'll be identical.... we'll see.
Hi, do what is so so special about gardenctotchets' version of jh Adriatic? You have me very interested haha. Could you sell some cuttings this fall?

Here is a list that I will choose one from.

Ventura $20, Coastal Fig Company
Battaglia $30, Kremp
Vasilika Sika VS $30, Kremp
Verte $30, American Fig Company
JH Adriatic $35, Trees of Joy
Figbig is another option
Little Bexar Farm

I contacted someone from Little Bexar Farm about making an appointment next week. It's almost 2 hour drive from here, but it would be nice to look at the trees in person and pick one out. I will be out that way anyways. Another plus for going to Little Bexar Farm is that I wouldn't have to pay shipping and maybe could get a better plant if I put that money I would have spent on shipping towards the plant.
Ventura from Coastal Fig Company is one that I'm curious about. There is not much information about Ventura online compared to other Adriatics. It doesn't seem as popular so I wonder if that's because it's not as good. Is it like Thermalito and one I should not choose? The pics of Ventura figs on the Coastal Fig website look great. Also Ventura is one of the figs that Figs 4 Fun lists as Adriatic and has a description. Another plus for Ventura is it's a little cheaper than the others and I have already purchased a rooted cutting from that company and was well pleased with their product. Anyone have information about Ventura? Should I go to Little Bexar Farm instead of buying online? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit to add: If I was truly set on getting WM#1, I would look for one on figbid. I don't want to pay twice as much for WM#1 as for other Adriatics unless the tree is twice as good, and I don't think WM#1 is twice as good. That being said, I could probably find one for a reasonable price if I were really set on it.

This thread has been Rolling Along for quite some time. Situations have changed since it first started. Has been previously noted I have had to resign from managing the free cutting program, and I'm currently awaiting clarification on this program's future. I also noticed that I didn't ever specify my favorite adriatics. Green Goblin Angelito White Madera#1 and JHA Big Bill gifted me with Green Michurinska but it has not fruited for me as of yet. Green Ischia is a long time resident of my pity corner sick room going on two years now. I'm thinking of naming the pity Corner wing of my Orchard after it. I'm on my second year with thermolito, and I haven't made up my own mind about it. I've heard some amazing reports about it lately, so we'll just have to see. Fig Gazer gives it a 10 in his Orchard, and I love the taste of it. Fig gazer does not fertilize his Orchard, but just let it grow naturally. Maybe that's one of the reasons it's the leader of the pack.

My Green Ischia sounds like yours. It is the only tree that I have been keeping off to the side in it's own corner of the yard, like a quarantine. It is a 2 year old that I bought early in the spring when it was just leafing out. It has been sickly ever since. It had 2 or 3 figs on it that it dropped.

I started this thread when I was just starting my collection. It really hasn't been that long ago but I feel like I have learned so much about growing figs. The Adriatics that I have are Strawberry Verte, Green Ischia, and WM#1. I think that I have 22 fig trees and I only want to add two more to the collection. Another honey fig and another adriadic. I would like to get a Prosciutto Unk and a honey fig that will grow well in a pot and be very productive. I don't know which variety that would be. Currently I have LSU Gold that I will probably gift to a friend, and Izbat An Naj that is very small and lives indoors in a window. I have some that might be honey figs because I don't know what they are. Schar Israel and Fico de Familia, maybe those are honey figs, idk.

If I can gift a few of my less desirable fig trees to friends and family that might do better in the ground in their yard than in my pots, then I can add more to my collection, which means more Adriatics. Besides Prosciutto Unk, I would like to get AJH.

I received a "Dominicks" and Adriatic (jh) from her. The Dominicks has put out 55 gram mt etna figs that are HUGE! The Adriatic jh is just vigorous as h*ll! Some adriatics are slow or shy to fruit, but not the JH from garden crochet. She has great plant stock.

I'll have cuttings on figbid after dormancy. PM me hete to get them direct

I was just thinking about this—cause I’ve literally never tried an Adriatic/Verdone/Verdino fig

Never seen a ripe one opened up, just not popular in my neck of the woods. All the green/white figs are either honey or honey/berry figs in my area

I do have a strawberry Verte and a Vasilika Sika rooting, not sure if they’re true Adriatics though

Wow, that's a huge mount etna! Thanks for the information, I'll definitely hit you up for some cuttings later on

I received this wm #1 2-3 weeks ago and has no growth.. I have it indoors at the moment.
