Best Adriatic?

Here is a list that I will choose one from.

Ventura $20, Coastal Fig Company
Battaglia $30, Kremp
Vasilika Sika VS $30, Kremp
Verte $30, American Fig Company
JH Adriatic $35, Trees of Joy
Figbig is another option
Little Bexar Farm

I contacted someone from Little Bexar Farm about making an appointment next week. It's almost 2 hour drive from here, but it would be nice to look at the trees in person and pick one out. I will be out that way anyways. Another plus for going to Little Bexar Farm is that I wouldn't have to pay shipping and maybe could get a better plant if I put that money I would have spent on shipping towards the plant.
Ventura from Coastal Fig Company is one that I'm curious about. There is not much information about Ventura online compared to other Adriatics. It doesn't seem as popular so I wonder if that's because it's not as good. Is it like Thermalito and one I should not choose? The pics of Ventura figs on the Coastal Fig website look great. Also Ventura is one of the figs that Figs 4 Fun lists as Adriatic and has a description. Another plus for Ventura is it's a little cheaper than the others and I have already purchased a rooted cutting from that company and was well pleased with their product. Anyone have information about Ventura? Should I go to Little Bexar Farm instead of buying online? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit to add: If I was truly set on getting WM#1, I would look for one on figbid. I don't want to pay twice as much for WM#1 as for other Adriatics unless the tree is twice as good, and I don't think WM#1 is twice as good. That being said, I could probably find one for a reasonable price if I were really set on it.
When you shop fig plants, you should also pay attention to the conditions of the plants. Most of the fig plants on FigBid are rooted cuttings from the winter. Some of the vendors from above sell plants in tree pots or in 1G pots. Most of the plants I sell on FigBid are 3 gallon size. This is at least one year difference. Same with some other vendors like Aaron at NJ Fig Farm. He goes directly from treepots to 3 gallon pots. And he gets a lot of plants from previous years, just like mine.

I do not root cuttings over winter since I take winter off.

Brian @Little Bexar Farm is a nice gentleman. I've dealt with him several time and I'm happy.

Those are some of the 3G plants I have listed.

I will check out some sizes available. I have had my eye on your Mariani Carini in 3 gallon. I would be willing to pay more for a tree in it's second season instead of a rooted cutting from last winter.

I made a decision on which Adriatic and purchased a White Madeira #1 from Trees of Joy. I talked to Bass on the phone and he said it should ship Monday or Tuesday. I know I said that I was not going to get a WM#1 but I thought about it more, and I didn't want to later regret my choice and think "I should have got the WM#1", also some day when my trees are mature, if I decide to sell cuttings, I think this will be a better tree to have than another type of Adriatic. I did try to look at what was available on figbid. I had received a message that the site would be down for maintenance at 2:00 pm. The site was down at 8:00 am this morning when I was trying to make the purchase. I know that I could have waited until the site was back up, but I think that I will be pleased with the product from Trees of Joy.

I have five of the varieties you mentioned. I would also have to put Green Goblin in that category as well. If OTBP ships to your area I would definitely consider them as well @Bigbill or @Trustyfarms @JMF75 all members here.

LOL I never did review the rules on mentioning suppliers I believe in the old house a grower could mention their Wares twice a year for sales. Please feel free to redact this post. Wow WM#1 great choice. Still I'm going to leave this up we have a lot of great members who sell trees as well as cuttings.

All the hypes started from the old site. It is a promotion platform. Do not allow that to happen here. Some members regularly come to the platform to post sales. Some even do other promotions like donation, raffles and others. Just some ways to promote. Those have no rules.

I was considering Blanche de Deux Saisons from OTBP.

Like Grosse Monstrueuse de Lipari? 😆
I do not know.

A lot of figs just have new names again and again. One year is from Italy. The next is from Spain. All different fancy names. All come to the same old figs we've seen so many times.

Do not remember who introduced those figs. But the Holy Smoke! fig is just like an Alma. The Brown Sugar Crunch is like Teramo. People have done comparison side by side. Yet BSC still sells for >$100. Not so for Teramo. The KTJ is probably just the old Flanders. Names do sell well.

A lot more are coming. It is just the way how fig business works.

Enjoy your best Adriatic fig. All are great figs. You can't go wrong with any of them. $25 is about the same quality fig as $125 of the same size. Just different names.

Sometimes I wonder if there are fig varieties that are underrated just because they don't have a fancy European name. LSU varieties for example.

Yes, a lot of them.

Look at all those unknowns at NJ Fig Farm. Aaron named them as unknowns. And they do not attract many people in general. The only exception is the unknown Prosciutto. It is TorontoJoe's favorite. It is an excellent fig though.

This is interesting. I received the Mercedes GEM from Danny directly. It is a classic "Adriatic" fig. Almost identical to Lake Spur. Green Michurinska is totally different.

I double checked and I have Mercedes GREEN. I don't even have Gem at all if was an internal error!!! (Why we fruit to identify prior to sales) Thanks for for convincing me to double check ;)

That said, maybe Green Mich is more in the Lattarola category known as a cold hardy italian fig. It's leaves are looking more like that than traditional adriatic.

Mercedes GEM is worth it. If you still want one, I get some cuttings being rooted. It is a classic Adriatic. It is like Lake Spur and my Mariani Carini Green.

Michurinska is a Bulgarian name. So G Michurinska should be a Bulgarian fig as we are told. Not sure where it belongs. I do not know what the Lattarola is truly is. But we consider it to be similar to Atreano etc. It has pink/salmon interior color. No one appears to have a true Lattarola fig.

I got my WM#1 from Trees of Joy and I find myself looking for another Adriatic. I guess this fig collecting really does never end. I was wondering if the online nursery Planting Justice is a good place to buy rooted cuttings? I think it was previously named Rolling River or something like that. I am looking at buying the Paradiso Bronze from their website. I have read good things about Paradiso Bronze but I also read that there are other Paradiso figs often sold as Paradiso Bronze. Anyone grow Paradiso Bronze and how does it compare to other Adriatics? Do you think the one being sold at Planting Justice is actually Paradiso Bronze?

I have Paradiso Gene which is excellent fig and I believe all the Paradisos are very similar if not the same. I just added mine to my inground Orchard so we will see how it does. In a pot it produced medium size figs that ripened main crop in Early September. Green skin and strawberry tasty pulp. 😋

The Paradiso figs are another mess. The Paradiso Bronze should be somehow bronze. But most of the figs show green skin. Then we get the Paradiso Gene.

The Paradiso JM is another one. But it is a Brunswick type. So it seems Paradiso Bronze = Paradiso JM = Brunswick. But the naming has been totally messed up. How a bronze fig be green?

When you buy any fig, ask the sellers. Just do not buy based on the photos. Sellers may not even know what they are selling. They sell whatever on the tag of the trees that they receive. Then they make copies and distribute. The wrong names will keep spreading.

My understanding is that Paradiso Bronze is green and then just as it becomes ripe, it starts turning a bronze color, atleast partially. The bronze color is an indicator that the fig is ripe.

I have both Teramo and BSC. They are not the same. They look similar on the outside but the interior of BSC has more seed crunch and more complex flavor. Zoom in on the picture and you can see the seeds.

"Adriatic" figs are not known to turn to bronze color. Bronze is typical of Brunswick. Most of the Paradiso Bronze figs show clear green color.

Here is a good strain of Brunswick. See what the "bronze" color is.

They aren't bronze colored. They have partial bronze and only when they are fully ripe. It's like sugar spots. There is patches or specs or something. This pic is from the figboss blog.
