Favorite Fig 2024

I don't have pictures.

My Purple Smyrna, is from Exotica nursery in San Diego. I have had the tree for several years and it's just been so so. But this year they started to dry on the tree. The fig is a dark fig with dark interior. It tasted great because it was high acid with some sweetness from the drying. It was kinda like Rhubarb pie with berries.

This could be the fig.

This looks more like mine:

Texas Strawberry UKN, is an Adriatic. It was very similar to Verte. In prior years, WM #1 and Ukn prosciutto were slightly better, but not this year. Many people collect this in Texas.

Good looking fig..... yeah, the name is confusing

Smith was still the best this year, but we had lots of other good varieties to enjoy also. And some exciting new ones to try next year. We will see if Smith gets bumped out of first place.
My Smith has been in the ground for 4 years. This year was its best year for productivity and flavor. I wonder if people sometimes give up on a variety too soon before it reaches its full potential.

They have to be...... 😳🤣 If they get any better than what my 1st year tree has already produced, not sure what I'm gonna do. Might just have an entire collection of DTE. 🤷‍♂️

This is good to hear. I was waffling on whether DTE would get one of my 20, highly coveted in ground spots.

Bingo!! You could also graft DTE into something already in ground and see if it's something you are looking for.

The eBay I258…. You mean every cutting is a different variety?
lol possibly. I knew them all year because the leaves were thicker and more simple lobed than all of my others plus a darker green color... but I potted up the largest which made a yellow honey fig which ripened in one the hotter summer weeks surprisingly and without blemish except for the extremly delicate skin, soft as melted butter... the fall before I had an absolutely incredible fig from one of the four... but that doesn't seem to match flavor descriptions... Some that ripened earlier this year, maybe brebas were just blah. There are a few sitting on there. Soon hopefully I can identity the one that made the fig with indescribable greatness ... I have to say though it was like an intensely sweet potpourri like experience hehe

But funny they looked the same. WM from the same seller almost looked the same ans they made dark figs ... it may have been a different seller tho either both from ebay or maybe one from Etsy

Its kind of a polarizing one. I have heard some people say that they don't really like it. Hard for me to imagine, but we all do have different tastes and preferences... To me, I just feel like people are wrong when they say they don't like it :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
This year my DTE actually had a flavor similar to cream soda which was really refreshing. It’s a workhouse variety for me and definitely a keeper.

What does DTE stand for? I have never heard of this one variety.

Does anyone have any pics they can post??
