I don't know about that. But maybe an Italian MRE?Freeze dried soppressata? I know it’s wrong but part of me wants to know
You're literally the only one among us who has everything needed to do itI have to make it happen.
What is the flavor profile we’re most critical of?I still have not tried DTE, although I did manage to kill a tree. It’s tough for me to pick a single stand out favourite….. but I can certainly name a few
I-258 remains at the top of my list. Many of you have seen my on ground tree. It just produces so many amazing figs and it checks all the boxes.
While I want to try it on the ground as well, Vince #3 has been blowing me away. So early and so productive…. And just a great tasting fig in what might be the flavour profile that we’re most critical of.
Smith - another tried and true top fig. Once of the few that I keep multiple trees.
Cessac is outstanding and can stand next to smith any day.
A few others are family heirlooms. Maybe, one day they’ll be out there in greater numbers
Perhaps 'critical' wasn't the correct word. Maybe one that we expect a lot from. That being Adriatic types. What is the flavor profile we’re most critical of?
The eBay I258…. You mean every cutting is a different variety?Madeira Island Black blew them all away but only one from a still fairly small tree in a 3 gal ... the skin was tough, but thin. Not as tough as Bmkk but tough enough that if it had not been excellency in the other aspects of flavor and taste, then it would have been knocked out.
In fairness tho i still have several that might ripen on top of a Paratjal Rimada and what is probably another NV6 that I have labeled as Lussheim, in a bowl in the fridge, hopefully just switched by mistake... I have some I258s that might make it... I have neglected them but one of them produced a fig about as fancy as the MIB so if I get a ripened main crop I might have a contender.. the i258s came from ebay and so far every fig has been different. One of them a yellow honey fig haha so possibly I258 NOT! but i ate a really incredible fig from one of them some seasons ago
Would you have any information or pics on Purple Smurna and Texas Strawberry UKN? Those names are new to meWeird year. We didn't get enough heat. So different varieties were stronger this year.
Best Figs: Purple Smurna, Verte, Texas Strawberry UKN, Panache, and Vdb.
I just thought DTE was a so so fig when I got cuttings, but it is one I think I will look forward to season after season as well.I agree about DTE. DTE was for the 3rd year one of my top 5 again. My wife finally agreed with me this year too, it was one of the ones we looked forward to the most. Can Planetes was one of my favorites too this year. I didn't know what to expect, but it was awesome, productive, and bordering on large. Cessac, and White Madiera #1 are always top 5 or so for me too. Here is the rest of my favorites of the year ( I probably left some out)
Tier 1: Can Planetes, DTE, Cessac, De La Roca, Borda Barraquer, Saint Martin, White Madiera #1, Pastiliere, Calderona, La Bourgoisie, HSK Unk, Green Goblin, Rosselino, NV1,
Tier 2: Malta Black, Kesariani, Unk Sicillian Dark, Souadi, LDA, Marrios Pelligrino, Desert King Breba, Ischia Black UCD, Moro De Caneva, Iranian Candy....
Its kind of a polarizing one. I have heard some people say that they don't really like it. Hard for me to imagine, but we all do have different tastes and preferences... To me, I just feel like people are wrong when they say they don't like itI just thought DTE was a so so fig when I got cuttings, but it is one I think I will look forward to season after season as well.
They have to be...... If they get any better than what my 1st year tree has already produced, not sure what I'm gonna do. Might just have an entire collection of DTE.Its kind of a polarizing one.
