Black Celeste

Ironically the reviews I've seen with IC is that it's not that great of an improvement over regular Celeste's--So my assumption is that if one has it, then fine but if you already have other Celeste's in your collection you're probably fine without it unless you really want it for some reason.

As with all of these similar types or categories I believe the one's that do best in your area are the one's to keep.
IC should be larger than a classic Celeste, better flavor?...eh
I'd rather have LSU Tiger than IC....even though I have both.

This is basically what I keep reading or seeing in video's, it's almost like the word "improved" in IC is a negative towards this fig. I'm assumming almost everyone who gets this fig is familar with the taste profile of a Celeste and when they get this fig maybe expecting something more come away with "meh" feeling about it.

It seems pretty expensive. Is it that good? There is two of them on figbid right now. One has 17 bids and is up to $123. The other one has 52 bids and is up to $102. What I don't understand is why they don't just go buy it from Chesapeake Figs for $75.
Thanks @ETXfigs and @DCallahan ! With the premium varieties I never have too many of each, because I mostly sell oit of those cuttings. But as a few get to shippable size and hardened off, I add them to the web site. :). Black Celeste is such a pretty fig

Well like I've stated prior, I am growing many Celeste type figs, Blue, Black, The One, Texas Peach, Classic, Hunt, Stallion...seems like there is 1 or 2 more.

The One was really good last year.

I'm going to try to get a comparison this year, if the critters don't get them all. lol
I was thinking the One was supposedly the best I heard.

What I’ve heard on improved Celeste was its ability to not drop fruit, earlier, more resilient, etc, nothing to do with taste.

I knew that he is a member here and I have to admit that had a little bit to do with why I started the thread. I try to keep track of the members here that sell figs. When I'm looking for a certain fig to buy, I try to look first to see if they(forum members) have what I'm looking for. If someone else has it for cheaper, I will get the cheaper one, but I atleast like to check what they have first. The only place that I see Black Celeste available, other than figbid is Chesapeake Figs. The price is not cheap but it's better than the figbid prices. I was very close buying that Black Celeste but I decided to not spend that much because I needed to get some other things like Gnatrol, potting mix, etc. I got Violeta for $35 from Kremp but it seems that $75 for Black Celeste is not a bad deal. I don't think he will have any problems selling them.
Troy Priddy was selling black Celeste rooted at $25 each, unfortunately he sold out quick so I wasn’t able to get one at the time

What about Stallion? Many say it's an improved Blue Celeste but Fig Data Base says it's likely a renamed Black Celeste. And how much better is The One than regular Blue Celeste, is it much better?

Blue Celeste is not Black Celeste.
If anything it's Classic Celeste.
I'm hoping to document this.

I have leaf pics and unripe fig pics of all mine...but going to start a different thread.

I am not saying that Blue Celeste is Black Celeste. I am saying that Stallion might be Black Celeste and not Blue Celeste. Could that be possible.

I reread the fig database page. I thought it said Stallion is "likely a renamed Black Celeste". It actually says speculated or believe to be by some, a rebranded Black Celeste.

I'm not so sure about that either...but I will be keeping an eye on it this year and report back.

Sweet Diana is a keeper for me. It consistently does very well and very tasty. It's the fig that I generally use an example when I make a point of saying you can get very good figs without a huge price tag.

Black Celeste is pretty great.... whether it's worth whatever amount I figure is up to the person buying it.

I would take the descriptions on Fig Database with a small grain of salt. It takes snippets of conversations from outside its website to develop a description. I'm not saying every entry is right or wrong just that the summary can be weighted on the source it comes from.

Last season I got a very early fruit off of a second season Black Celeste. Early like it was a breba. It was hidden so I didnt notice it, but the dog did, I had to fight her off of it. MAN was it gooood!! Like, blow your socks off and curl your toes good!! Been chasing that experience ever since.
