Picture Thread

@GIV Such a beautiful pictorial thread, thank you so much for sharing them. I'm not sure I deserve to go to heaven when I die. I've made so many mistakes, but I would be completely devastated never to see Greg's amazing Garden @GIV gave us many donated cuttings so we could continue the new member free cutting giveaway that last month. Thank you Greg for your amazing generosity to the figfanatic membership. There were so many new members who still wanted cuttings, without you they would have never gotten them.

Today's Harvest, 10 main crop Celeste. I ate them all at once. The less ripe ones taste like melon and the more ripe ones have a sweeter berry flavor.

I’ll have to pay attention to this melon flavor, at the other forum I posted my Celeste and said it’s a light berry flavor and they told me no berry Celeste is a sugar fig so it should just be sweet—then they had me second guessing myself and I ask my buddy do you taste sugar or berry? He said berry…so I was like good I wasn’t imagining it.

I love these figs but mine are fairly small.

These all came off the same tree

Those are hunger inducing pictures. I'm suddenly having a hankering for lasagna. 🤤

Maybe the flavors vary from tree to tree. The first figs I got this year tasted 100% like honeydew melon. The figs I get now off a second tree taste less like melon but the fully ripe ones taste like eating strawberry jam. I've heard people describe figs tasting like strawberry jam but I've never heard Celeste tasting like strawberry jam. Either way I like them fully ripe or less ripe. But I have never noticed the brown sugar flavor that is usually the way Celeste is described. That being said, I don't have a refined palette.

Welcome to the unrefined club.

I can't remember who it was on YT but one of the more popular one's, but it wasn't Ross. They got all the latest to greatest Mt Etna's who supposedly had a superior Mt Etna flavor than the typical Mt Etna, after two to three years they said they couldn't distinguish the differences in flavor and they decided to get rid of a few to make room for some other varities they wanted. I think he kept his older Mt Etna's rather then the latest and greatest hot Mt Etna on the market. I remember the tone of his voice seemed a little disappointed he didn't come across something "far better" than what he already had. I vaguely remember them being in Jersey or maybe Virginia?
