I saw a beautiful huge in ground fig tree in a front yard here in town. I thought about going back and knocking on the door to ask if I could get a few cuttings, but I don't think in Texas it's as likely to find a cool variety imported from Europe like it is back east. In Texas it's likely to be a Brown Turkey or Celeste or something. In the north east it could be anything. I think that guy in NJ had the right idea. Sounds like he found a good one with that Unk Prosciutto.
Pretty much all of the fig trees we have came from Europe, the middle east or north Africa in the first place. You never know....
One thing I do know... Fig people are generally, very nice. If you do knock and start a conversation, at worst you get to meet someone who likes figs and perhaps a new figgy friend... at best, maybe also a fig that's been in the family a while with a good story...
Hey.... maybe they're expats from NJ
