The real pastiliere takes a while before it starts to ripen figs. At least this is what I have read.
I have the Unk smyrna version. Which I do love.
I've probably said this before....
We expect a lot from these figs we grow. Buy pretty much any other fruit tree. Apples, pears, stone fruit.... whatever...... Straight off, it's going to be years before the tree is productive. That we can most often get real figs from what was literally "a stick" in less than three years is outstanding.... sometimes, we just need to be patient for the good ones.
I've had my Siblawi for maybe 4-5 years. I sersiously considered tossing it more than once but I held on... And it paid off. Last season I got an amazing surprise... a fig that tastes like banana popsicle! It's outstanding! I thought I was losing it but I shared with my wife and son and they both agreed about the flavour.
