This recipe is from my dad when my brother and I were kids.

-2 slices bread of choice
-mayonnaise
-yellow mustard

Apply mayo and mustard to one side of each slice of bread. Press the slices together, making sure the mayonnaise and mustard are on the inside. Proceed to eat--and wish you had some meat.

Serves 1

In the future, you will just scoop the flesh out of ripe figs to spread on the 2 pieces of toasted bread.

I remember when we got married 47 years ago. We thought renting was just throwing money away even though we found a bargain. So we bought a cheap house on our 1st anniversary. 1979 and 12% interest and a recession. Getting to work about 24-36 hours a week. Barely able to buy food to eat after bills. But we made it through with God's help. Guess that's why we are still thrifty today.

Going on 72 years of age and still kicking, I remember PBJs being the go-to sandwich. A fancy sandwich back in the olden days was two slices of bread with mayo on one side and yellow mustard on the other - and composted meat - bologna. I prefer a good hoagie style Philly Cheese steak, but PBJs and bologna have not disappeared completely.
