Hi everyone! I’ve been a member for a little while now, but I thought I would do a quick intro.

I had never given figs much thought, until I was landscaping and tried planting a fig in my yard because I thought the foliage looked nice. About 4 years and a handful of ripe figs later and I was hooked! I went crazy propagating this last winter and now have over 100 figs in pots, mostly recently rooted cuttings. Bit by the fig bug for sure!

Now to the main point of this post. White Baca! After being immersed in this and other forms I learned about this variety. It intrigued me and I decided to go for it. Rooting a $400 cutting has been nerve wracking but so far so good. Below are photos chronicling its progress thus far.

Excited to spread this variety around the community!

@WhiteCliffsFigs Congratulations on buying a cutting of the great white whale. Also for being just a regular Fig Lover, and not a speculator, investing in this sought after variety. I'm so happy to see your clearly successful in propagating this variety. Having got this far it's completely likely that you will never lose a dime in having done this. Everybody will want a taste, including me.

I just watched a video from MJFIGS on YouTube. He gave an update to his White Baca. Seems a very popular variety currently.
It has been a very hard one to get.
Marco just sold a few cuttings this past season on FigBid.
MJ was one of the ones that bought them.
We will be hearing more about this one over the next couple of years.

When did you introduce light??

Why would anybody spend lots of money on a variety that produces small fruits is beyond my comprehension. Not only that. I read there were others similar to it for less money. I can't verify that, but for me. spending time and resources on small fruit is a waste when I can grow much larger fruits for the same efforts.

I can understand some one not wanting to spend lots of money on any fig . BUT being adverse to small figs is counter productive if one is looking for the best tasting figs !!! LIKE only eating ostridge eggs and never caviar ! Personaly i seldom water or fertilize my inground trees so i produce smaller richer fruit . Some of the most spectacular tasting figs where very small from gopher damaged trees as they died . who knew ?

How exciting and nerve wracking!!
Can ask what the plastic is for on day 19?

Fig Gazer, everybody will do whatever they want. I think it depends on how many fruits you can get off a tree at one time. I have been unfortunate to get maybe 1-2 figs off a tree at any one time. I would rather get 3-4 fruits at a time in the 30-40 gram range vs more than that in the 18 grams or less. It's all about priorities.

The first picture was taken as I was potting it and before I put the plastic on. The plastic is to keep in some of the moisture. My goal is to get the amount of moisture in the medium at the start to last until there’s the start of leaves and roots. It has seemed to work quite well.

WOW ! That is very low productivity even for potted fig trees . Wonder what is going on in your micro climate /soil/ variatal selection /pests ??????????
