Welcome... everyone!

Fig newbie here (sorta) from "another life" as TJ says, lol.  Here is my story:

I got my first tree in 2015 from a local nursery, Peter's Honey - stuck it in the ground and basically forgot about it. I probably watered it daily when I first got it, don't recall. Then 2nd year and beyond I only watered it once a week.  No fertilizer, no pruning, no pesticides, no compost, no mulch, and no love - just let it go like that for years, clueless about what I was doing (and not doing). I think it fruited in it's 3rd year, and since then I normally get about 200 figs per year from it.  A bit later I added 2 gifts given to me: a Celeste and Black Mission, but I decided to keep both of those in pots for some reason. I joined my first online community (Figs4Fun) in 2019? to learn more about growing and fix my mistakes. Unfortunately I was not active enough, but I did learn a few basic things like propagation and pruning as well as root pruning. But I still did not use any fertilizer, and watering was very irregular. In 2021 I joined REDACTED, and learned a bit more, but did not become fully active until Fall of 2023. That was a big milestone for me because it was the first time I took growing very seriously, and fully devoted myself to learning as much as possible, day and night. So while I am technically not a newbie anymore, I only count my experience from September 2023 for that reason. Today I am up to 59 trees, 40 different varieties, and I am currently attempting to root 40 or so cuttings.  No, I am not addicted, I am obsessed, lol!

My time on OF was short, compared to a lot of the folks over here, but I did enjoy it because I learned a huge amount of information in such a short amount of time - the people were always nice, very knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to respond to questions. I don't know what caused the shift to create this site, and I'm not sure I want to know, but I am here because I know a lot of the big names and fig celebrities like TJ, Ktrain, RandyK, and Randall.  I'm eager to see how this forum progresses!

Well we are happy to have you here Costa,
Good background write up.
The F4F forum I believe ended in 2015...which is when the other one was created.
We have high hopes this one will bloom into something better!
I had no idea you sported so many trees...good for you man, :D
The more love you give them...the more love they give you. ;)

Welcome to figfanatic,
I seen your name and was a bit shocked, the Vice President of my company is Eva H.
Thought maybe she was here spying on me...lol  :D
Jump in on some conversations if you like and let us know how your trees are doing.
Cheers

Howdy all!

I was formerly known as SmigFith, at an earlier time, in another place.

Decided a name change was in order and I don't really know what I was thinking when I created that Username.

Anyway, glad to have found this site. 🙂 Is going to take a little while to get used to the change in format.
