The fig community

There is a fb group that is very exclusive (maybe it is the same group) and I believe you have to be a well-known collector to be allowed to join.
That would be nice for collectors, but I don’t think a mod from a group I am not even a member of should reach out and do what she did.

Plus her members were in a different group that I was part of, so it made it doubly inappropriate imho.

I totally understand..... I became friends with not a fig guy but a paw-paw guy, but when he asked what I was wearing one night, and I blew up at him, well that stopped.... so I came here, I don't see him here, and everyone is so nice. I have grown figs for years, but literally still have some pretty lame ( to me ) questions, and everyone is always so nice.
Now that is weird.

There is not as many people using forums as there was 10-15 years ago because of the rise of social media groups. The fb groups don't work as well as a forum. It's like one long endless page. But for some reason many people would rather take part in those groups instead of forums. I guess because they want everything thing in one place. It's convenient, they can look at fig trees, post pictures of what they had for lunch, and rant about the weather without having to spend the extra 2 seconds it takes to open another web page.

I much prefer forums, but FB does have a few good points. I would have never known about figs had it not been a suggestion in my feed. I'm a member of pawpaw groups and I guess the algorithm figured I'd be interested in figs too.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm wearing bib overalls and a flannel shirt right now...

well that's icky! Everyone is respectful here and they put up with my no brain questions. And honestly there's no one else I can talk figs with. After a while the nonfiggy people just glaze over and you realize it takes special people to speak fig with you.😄

Figo Preto.

And by sheer coincidence, the person who bought it was @FamilyPhishFigs, who I met at a figfest a week later and became friends with.

And no, he did NOT have to go on a date with the seller, lol!
I mean if someone wanted to feed me and let me get a Black Madeira I don’t think I’d be mad. I’m a fat kid who never turns down free food though haha.

It is true, I did not have to go on a date with Mark to buy the figo preto. Sucks he was a creeper. As soon as it is big enough to take a cutting off of or do an airlayer I will get you one.
Glad we connected and became fig friends!
Just wait until the next Mark joins the forum. First requirement would be “Hi, I’m Mark, just not the creeper”
