The $1000 fig tree

I see a big difference between a '1000 dollar tree' and 'someone paying $1000 for a fig tree'. The former presumes a rare/of limited availability but proven variety of superior qualities and widely undisputed value. Not the case here. The latter presumes a speculative expectation of ROI based on current hype, rarity, and obscurity. Those who play this game and act fast will win some, and the slower ones might break even or end up holding the bag. The smartest way is to wait till the dust settles and make a well-informed decision.

To think at the other forum guys went off and basically chased Ross off the forum for selling a fig tree for 300 bucks or so—grant it I’m sure there was more to the story.

You're always going to have those that like to stir the pot...poke the bear...not let a sleeping dog lie...let it go...w/e the term.
They'll always be around unfortunately.

Kremp sells cuttings of Siclian 33 for 45 dollars
That listing price and the same for other coveted varieties is just a tactic to get prospective buyers to ask to be notified when the item comes into stock. No telling when or how much the item will be.

I’ve never seen Kremp Florist jack up prices from what they have listed, even when out of stock.

I guess we’ll see on this one since they have it listed.

I forget which one was fairly hot at one time, cessac, crozes or conde something like that and even when figbid was insane their prices were much more reasonable, for a cutting.

Like all things in time, the price will come down. I was lucky to get mine and I will be happy to share once my tree is large enough.
I would love to get a small cutting or two to graft. I want to compare it to my Pasquale. No rush though. I have too many varieties already.
