The $1000 fig tree

Maybe Joe will bring us one back. Since it seems that this variety will do very well in Toronto. I'm sure it's not a scarce fig in Italy. Or wherever it is that he's eating all that delicious food.

sadly…. as far as i know the only place on the planet to find real, fresh porcini is here. dried are really good but frankly when an 80+ year old forages for them an brings them back to serve with fresh farfali and homestead made olive oil….. it’s pretty special…. just saying…. this is a good place for a foodie vacation 😀

Dagnabbit I took a look, and now I want one too.

The "Casticeddah" (also spelled Casciteddha or Casciteddhra) is a rare and highly sought-after fig variety, particularly popular in Southern Italy, specifically the Salento region. It is known for its exceptional sweetness, floral flavor, and large, dark purple figs with red stripes. The variety is known for producing two crops, a breba crop and a main crop, and is considered among the best for both.
Here's a more detailed look at the Casticeddah fig:
Key Characteristics:
Flavor: Sweet with a distinct floral note.
Fruit: Large, dark purple figs with red stripes when ripe. The interior is a bright pink before fully ripening.
Productivity: Known for heavy breba and main crops.

A winning variety for sure. Early, common, cold tolerant with Rockstar good looks. @figologist this is all your fault

Oh no, that sounds amazing. This forum is dangerous 😂

I want to put in a request to @Figless for the next time you send me free cuttings. I would like Casticeddah, Aunan, Sicilian 33, Vince #3, and White Baca. I will probably think of a few more. 🤣

@ETXfigs I had to put up a very :-( because I currently have none of those varieties in my possession. Sadly it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to personally acquire them anytime soon either. I can of course scoop up two giant handfuls of promises that I can reward you with. LOL the very same promises that were tearfully given to me, a year ago. I'm certainly willing to share them. On the other hand @ETXfigs you've been such a wonderful new member to my mind you deserve all that, and even more. We would have to throw in the @GoodFriendMike 's 20 more varieties that he could think of as well because you,
((and all y'all)) certainly deserve them. If it means anything I personally contributed $350 towards a breeding program to get even *(one)* of those varieties available that was mentioned above, available to all members. It's just amazing how prices have risen, while availability has transformed itself into non-availability.

I was just kidding. I don't expect any of those varieties. I am happy with my collection.

@ETXfigs I thank you for saying that. I really think has a membership we could get together, and purchase these varieties to be put in the hands of our best grafters, and propagators to get these varieties in the hands of our membership. I will personally pledge another $200 towards a fund to do just that. Let's get a group of us together, and pick a few varieties that we as a membership want to have. Acquire those varieties, and put them before our giants of propagation.

We can do anything as a membership we deem, or dream possible.

LOL we might have to wait a minute till Bill Gates, and Elon Musk acquire the varieties they've got their eyes on...
