Thank you!

@Brian V I don't have any parafilm currently and that is all i have seen used in the videos i watched. I was thinking about melting an unscented candle. Would that work? I am new to all of this and still learning.

I just had some soy wax used for candle making. I've been using that and it seemed to work fine. I just melted it in a small pot and waited until it started to cool down and dipped the tips. If the pop ties are tight, you can probably still do that without making a huge mess.

Have any candles? Melt some and apply it to tips or hold a lit candle sideways over the top of each one and let the wax drip onto the top of the cuttings.

I will attempt this tonight. My ties should be tight enough. Thanks!

Good luck. I have some cuttings in the mail. I might try fig pops. I will be way less likely to give them too much water if they are sealed up.

Since you are new, instead of wax, I would highly suggest going with authentic Parafilm (not knockoff Parafilm- a few knockoffs work to different degrees, some don’t work at all).

There is a lot of variation in wax, types of wax used, mixtures/ratios of different waxes, temp, etc. so there might be a learning curve there.

Personally I prefer the parafilm because it also helps keep the cutting from dehydration along the length of it, not just at the tip.

Plus 1 for the parafilm! I love that stuff! So easy to work with and it serves its purpose perfectly.
Exactly. There’s a reason labs all around the world only use authentic parafilm - because it’s perfect every single time. Of course propagating figs doesn’t require that level of perfection, but it’s nice not having to question that piece of the process. 😊
