Single nodes

Are yall cutting each side of the nodes all the was to the next ones?
As to leave as much wood as possible.
Or are you cutting each side close to the node?

I typically trim longer cuttings down and use the bottom/thicker side for my main rooting. I cut right above the node for this. The skinnier section up top has a node or two along with internodal space/wood that is above the node I cut. I don’t trim that single noder at all. I want all that wood/energy available for growing.

Plant cell fig pops doing well. Clear roots coming out of the air pruning cells. I forgot to mention There is some Osmocote Plus and Great White in there as well. Other than the perforation of plastic to let the shoots come out, I want it to be as hands off as possible.

that looks really good, healthy roots.. where did you get the pruning cells? they look deep, the ones in Amazon are shallow

When do you apply the osmocote?
Do you sprinkle it on the surface at the time of planting?

Nice, that's what I was getting at...using as much wood on both sides for maximum stored energy. 😊

I just chucked some in the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the cells while I was filling with them. I did the same with some fig pops as an experiment vs the hydrating everything with 1/4 strength 20-20-20. I used Osmocote Plus for the micronutrients.

This is cool. Now I want to try a load of nodes in one of those 72 cel seedling trays :)

I have a couple deep 72’s and thought about it, but the thickness of the cutting will limit to skinny boys and tip cuttings only. Otherwise you won’t be able to get enough medium around them.

Been about a week since last update on this. The WM1 has decided to join the party. So all 4 cells doing well so far. Visible roots on Ondata and Borda Barrquer. No visible roots yet on MIB or WM1. As far as their corresponding fig pop counter parts: no bud swell or visible roots yet on either Borda or WM1. I also potted up a Mario 50 single node that I rooted my usual way. Lightly covered in damp Pro Mix in a tupperware. No action on its corresponding fig pop either.IMG_2129.jpegIMG_2127.jpeg

Another thing about rooting single node cuttings has taught me that the old ā€œruleā€ of trimming the bottom of the cutting close to the node may not be necessary. We may have been throwing away all of that stored energy in those internodal wood trimmings. This end on the Mario 50 is about an 1.5 inch away from the node. It’s callused over and looks great. Here are my short cuttings buried horizontal after almost 4 weeks - some single, some multiple nodes.

I had them in 100% coir, set horizontal and covered around 1/2ā€. No hormone or heat mat and were bottom watered and misted in a 67F room.

Last night I set up a shop light and decided to dig them up and mix up a batch of coir and perlite and replant. The 100% coir was becoming too dense and water retentive towards the bottom of container.
