Pruning time starts now!

I planted a new combo pear tree today. Also pruned 2 peaches, 2 Japanese Persimmons and my muscadines. Next time will work on blueberries. What I dread is a overgrown apple tree. It was ignored for years and started on it last year. Ever seen an old man fall off a ladder It won't be the first time.

i planted blueberries last year. they are dwarf varieties but i've never cared for them before. should i prune at this point or should i wait for them to get more mature?

If they grew pretty good I think a light prune would be good for them. With mine I try to keep 4 or 5 scaffolds coming out of ground. Just remove any older or misdirected ones first.

Yeah with everything I’m planting eventually it’s going to be a chore pruning everything. I look forward to it though.

Don't make a mistake like I did. Keep them short enough to reach from the ground. Makes the difference between joy and dread.

Have been out pruning and collecting scions the last few weeks, trying to dodge rain when possible. Was workign on muscadines today, 3 done, only about 15 more to go.

Cleaned up my muscadine yesterday. Added wire to last row of new ones. Would you happen to have any limbertwig apple scion? Wanted to try grafting on an old crabapple.

I don't in hand, I have some on the way, but they are for a grafting project I'm working on. (~ 125 apple and 50 pear rootstocks are in route)

I do have a few other varieties, or I might be able to get more as I'm trying to add a few more sources. Let me know what you had in mind. (DM works)

I have some Brushy Mt. Limbertwig coming late this week. Never tried this before. I cut an old tree way back also but don't know what it is. Always bloomed early but my other apple didn't pollinate it because only made a few poor apples. It had gotten to tall and I'm getting old too. Might try grafting 2-3 that pollinate together to use the old roots.
