OMG My Smith Has Rooted

And in only 11 Days. Not only has it rooted it's also leafing out. Should I keep the saran wrap cover on top or remove it? @betdempster I told you Smith is a great fig.

Congrats!! I've read that Smith can be finicky when rooting-good to see some roots there!

I had a 4 year old inground at my other house that was too big to dig up and bring here. It made delicious figs. I got it from Big Bill, so when he had his cutting sale last year I purchased one and he also gifted me one. One I traded for the LSU St. Gabriel and I kept one. Should I keep the Saran Wrap on top still or remove it?

Congrats. I'd leave the saran wrap on to maintain the moisture.

So some varieties root easier than others? I bought smith cuttings from 3 different sources hoping to increase my odds. Hopefully at least 1 will root for me. leaving the cup sealed won't affect the roots ability to get oxygen? I always wondered about that .

Smith has been one of my strongest growers from cuttings. Second year gave me delicious and abundant figs. I have heard Texas BA-1 is a more hardy Smith? Not in my case. So in my experience Smith roots well and grows well. I hope yours does the same!

Yeah I had 5 smiths, gave 2 away.
But 3 of them took at least 2 years to produce.
The other 2 were air layers.

This may sound crazy but I think the Taco Bell cups root better than the dunkin doughnuts cup…I think the figs like to live más lol

Interesting… I have both but Smith out-produces Cessac for me
