New Purple Tomatoes released

A bit bummed on this, Ive been awaiting to see if they produce a slicer, which I would have wanted to buy. They just made a striped version of the OG purple tomato, a slightly larger one and then an orange tomato.

I also dont like that they seemingly havent patented the beta tomato but are still saying you cant sell the fruit or use it as parent in breeding. To me that feels like trying to get patent like protection without putting in the work to patent it.
Is this the same variety as the "chocomato"? It sure looks the same to me...
A friend of mine, who is a commercial tomato grower in The Netherlands grew it (years ago!)...
It wasn't just "different", but also had much higher levels of "healthy compounds" in it.
A success story one would think. However... It totally failed commercially as people just didn't
like the look of it... Like it was over-ripe in a bad way...

I looked up the chocomato and no it is not the same as that. Looks like chocomato is a red base with green when ripe genes layering over causing the darkened color, also anthocyanin shoulders. The new lines of Norfolk purple have the Delila and rosea1 genes causing increased anthocyanin production throughout the fruits.

#impressed!
Man! You know about tomatoes! respect!

Haha thanks, it’s more a learning ocd issue. I have an endless urge to learn and in tomato groups I get a “what does this mechanic farm boy from Iowa know about tomatoes and genetics” 😂
Sometimes I wish more people had the "learning ocd issue"
