Lamarito Fig

Lamarito is one of my absolute favorite honey type of figs. I am always thrilled when they start to ripen. Unfortunately we had a ton of rain Tuesday to Thursday this week but Lamarito did not split and the flavor did not get washed out. Not my words but my friend says its a honey type fig that isn't just sweet. The flavor is a thick honey syrup with hints of something else I can't even describe, my Pingo de mel was excellent when properly ripe this fig is superior. Skin was thin not chewy no splitting in the cooler nights like allot of other figs. It has some weight to it at 87g. Angelito takes all the spotlight for good reason but Lamarito is no slouch. Days to ripen 94 from a bump.

Must say I am more of a berry fig person. But a good honey fig on a hot day is very nice. Looking at this one I would think more people would have post about. Very nice!

I'm a sucker for a sweet fig myself. Lamarito was not widely spread by Doug and I may have been one of the very few people Doug shared this with because he knew how much I like sweet figs.
I have never heard of this variety before. We are both members of the Sweet Fig Club. Whether it is honey fig, sugar fig, berry fig or whatever fig it is, as long as it is sweet count me in.

Looks amazing! being a honey fig fan myself. Not heard of this variety, do you have pics of the leaves.
Thanks for sharing.

That is the only ito I have not had.
It does look really good.
I think the only ones I have now are Thermolito which will go bye bye soon and Exquisito which I like a lot.
I killed one other ito lol.
Got rid of Meteorito last year.
May have to get my hands on this one.

I lost a cutting on Thermolito sadly this year but I have Exquisito. It has some figs on it but not sure enough time left this year to try it. @ktrain why are you getting rid of Thermolito? I thought it was supposed to be a good one.

I brought some Lamarito to the Southeast Fig Frolic two weeks ago. I don't know who got them. @navyscpo did you happen to pick this one up? Anyway, I like this fig. They are nice and sweet and juicy. I have a ton of honey figs in general, but I'm keeping this one.

I grow all of Doug's releases except for Meteorito. (It is not common. Probably a Smyrna with partial parthenocarpy) My favorite of his figs is still his first one. It was prior to the 'ito series. Watermelon Wine. It's still rarely seen. I believe I saw Ktrain bring some to Frolic as well. Doug sure had found some great figs out there in fig land...

Watermelon wine Black Jack Sport is another great one.20220929_171811.jpg

It has made its way around slowly because I only have one plant so there are not to many cuttings available each year and they go fast.
Please put me on your list for next year. If anyone has this variety and has cuttings to share, I am available to receive.

Yes, that is one of the ones I got from you. It is just now starting to wake up in my garage.
So sorry, for the super late reply.

Water melon wine you say? That sounds like something I may be interested in. Spent many a night sipping on it's namesake.
