FREE TREES! CCGP 50 TREE GIVEAWAY! THIS WEEK! (For SoCal/BFF zone only)

SO FAR IT IS NOT IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY OR NORTH OF THE BAY AREA ,AS THE LARGE COMMERCIAL FIG ORCHARDS ARE IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY (FRESNO TO SACRAMENTO ) IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO SEND BFF ENFECTED FIGS INTO THAT AREA .In time BFF will get there but time may give them a chance to prepare deffences ??

Alastair reported it in Sebastopol I believe. Not sure if others north of him have it yet.

I think Brian/Profig doesn’t have it yet? At least not that I know of. I have heard it’s not in the Fresno to Sacramento area yet, but I don’t know for sure. I know there are fig growers along that area that may have it.

I don’t believe Harvey has it yet either.

I think that all of California is considered affected by BFF at this point, whether fully accurate or not, it’s just that there are some bigger growers in there we’d rather not end up with issues that they didn’t have before.

Basically all of SoCal is affected. And everything west of the 101 up through NorCal?

GLAD TO HAVE YOU FOLKS CHIME IN . BFF IS MOVING FAST ! AND AS THE 2026 CROP IS GROWING NEW INFESTATIONS WILL SHOW THEMSELVES AND THE ZONE WILL EXPAND ,IF YOU LOOK BACK OVER ALL MY POSTS IN BOTH FIG FORUMS YOU WILL SEE I PREDICTED THIS ALMOST FROM BFF FIRST SHOWING UP IN SO. Yep. As far as I know, it's made it the Bay Area (confirmed) but not yet to Harvey's. Fair Oaks was stated north of Sacramento, so that gives a rough idea.

There is a Google Map tracking reports, does someone know the link? That would be useful here.

I think Sulev said it's in Europe in areas colder than the wasp can survive.

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of Greg @Figless, and the kind help of @PapaFig, I was able to pick up several beautiful plants from Greg's impressive (I mean... Who else has 8 Angelito's sitting on a table?!) orchard in Berkeley last week. And beautiful they were! Despite the fact that Greg took over a thousand (was it 1300?) cuttings from his trees to selflessly give away earlier this year, his plants looked super healthy!

As he did not want to take a chance with possible BFF eggs or larvae, we treated all his plants with spinosad (underside and top of all leaves and buds) and permethrin (we did a thorough soak of all pots).

I plan on growing these plants out, and give back to the community here come next spring. When the time comes... Don't thank me... Thank Greg!

There were many FF Members who were, and who are very involved in the care taking of that lovely home orchard I was privileged to help look after in Berkeley CA. @Schoenie now joins their ranks. As does @ronke @SecretFigGarden [USER=1297]@Egg especially @Opiem10 (thank you) most especially @GIV @MattK a member who took the time to train me in his propagation techniques. As did @RosyPosy I will update this list tomorrow.... But that Berkeley CA Fig Garden was created in an afternoon's generosity by FF Member @Venturabananas at the 2024 Scion exchange. I let myself be guided by @Venturabananas previous help to CRFG Members who were also FF Members as well. The Angelito Fig forest was created by Sir @Fig Gazer in a moments generosity. He also created the CCGP the same way. A creative burst of generosity that just keeps on giving. My Berkeley Garden was a team effort that produced 1600 cuttings, and Over 200 mature trees all given away in just 2 years, for free, or just the cost of postage. This was a team effort. All thanks must go to @PapaFig and @AAAJacks who are running the CCGP. Keep your eyes on @AAAJacks who though just a teenager is already doing great things in the FF, and online Fig community. No one person did this, but together (we are all) changing the Fig World. Last but never the least our wonderful @9ah-figlet who gives away (Hundreds of Cuttings, and Trees) every year with the DMV Festival on the East Coast. Quietly doing Horticultural Miracles...

I have neglected to mention the two local hero's, both FF Members @richbbfigs @vinerya who helped me to take over a thousand cuttings this February, and send them out to @PapaFig, and his amazing son @AAAJacks . This allowed me to get them all preliminary treated, and washed to send to the CCGP who then washed, and treated them even further. This was done while all the Fig Trees were in complete dormancy. I am not sure the people who received free fig cuttings realized how well taken care of their CCGP cuttings actually were. For those who don't know I am a Very Disabled person (like 80%) without FF members @richbbfigs @vinerya none of my cuttings, and trees would have been treated, taken, and even shipped. they really do deserve the full credit for this happening. Thank you @richbbfigs Thank you @vinerya for helping all year to make this come true. They even helped with up-potting and fertilizing.
