First Roots... Class of 2026

I’m catching up… got it. Curious why you decided to root the rootstock with the Cosme Manyo? Of course I can’t tell where the graft is… I’m guessing that was it?

In the 32oz soup container I rooted it in the union is just below the soil line. Didn't want to go deeper as I wanted it to end an inch above the bottom of the container to keep a buffer from the water table. At up potting I'll be burying it so the CM wood is under the soil line in order to get it to root out as well.

update on my 12/19 cuttings. 5/30 have no visible roots yet. i excavated them to see whats up. of those 1 (campaniere) had 1 tiny root just forming. 1 was rotted (st martin, but i snipped off the rot and reapplied root hormone gel, we'll see how it goes its now very tiny), and 3 had no roots but no rot, a few lenticels but nothing special, i added rooting hormone gel after scratching and seeing green (these were 2 small angelitos, both of which had totally leafed out, and a black celeste which was kind of doing nothing ).

Also, notably one of my fastest to root figs is Negronne in my 1/4 rooting, but its kind of weird! instead of little dots like all of my other ones, its forming like long stripes of roots above the soil. 1769309671776.png

I think it's rooting from only one spot. As in you have one very healthy, vigorous root right now. Not bad, just be careful to break it as it has a lot invested in that root right now.

What's the backstory on the cuttings in the glass bowl with mystery fluid, any special recipes in there?

Nope, just some water in a bowl to hold the new cuttings for today’s fig popping, to keep my mind off the blizzard and probably losing

2 hours AFTER all the snow is completely cleared, it’s level to the bottom of my car door again.

@snarfing This room is at 69 degrees.
