I also got Mavra Sika when I joined the forum a year ago. We probably have the same version of that variety. I got figs from it last year. It was very very good. It's my only Mt Etna.Don’t know if this is good or not or even if it matters but 12 of the 16 fig pops are budding.
So far all 16 look healthy and the pops have signs of humidity condensation on the inside of the pops which I assume we want?
On a side note, sadly I managed to kill my last years cuttings through up potting way too soon and or planting in ground way too soon.
However, and I really don’t know anything about this variety but a Mavra Sika cutting placed in ground way too soon survived the winter with minimal protection and well the little guy is budding. That says something about Mavra Sika because we had a very cold winter with a few nights below zero degrees.
The Mavra Sika was protected by a plastic pot, some straw and a tarp. The exact same way as all the others.
Edit: The Mavra Sika, and the Strawberry Verte (also survived the horrible winter 2025) both came through the forum for being a newbie member. So, I don't know what Mavra Sika this one is since there's several called this name from different sources. Strangely enough, it could be the Mavra Sika from my hometown if this is the Bass version but who knows? Mavra Sika = Black Fig
Looks amazing! I hope mine work as well as yours.I did have to add a little water, they were getting dry
These were started 3/31
4-5 weeks old.
Small sample size, but I have had much better rooting success with 5-plus-node cuttings that I subdivided into smaller 2-4 node cuttings than I did with 5-plus-node cuttings that I started as-is.Another tip is not to make them so long. They don’t need to be that tall at all. Just 1-2 nodes under and 1-2 above. It’s easier to up
Pot and easier for the roots to fill up when they are shorter.
We are all rooting for you and I hope these cuttings do the sameHere’s my first ever fig pops. Wish me luck!

I just used what I got, for the most part they were all 3 to maybe 5 nodes.Small sample size, but I have had much better rooting success with 5-plus-node cuttings that I subdivided into smaller 2-4 node cuttings than I did with 5-plus-node cuttings that I started as-is.
I divided all my CCGP cuttings into 2 (and 1) node lengths. I'll post more data points when I get them.Small sample size, but I have had much better rooting success with 5-plus-node cuttings that I subdivided into smaller 2-4 node cuttings than I did with 5-plus-node cuttings that I started as-is.
Lucky man.The wife also likes a cold house lol
I’m happy to report that all the fig pops have rooted.
