Fig Variety Database

I would suspect that just the folks that have posted on here the last few days are growing several hundred + fig varieties. With their known fanaticism, that number will increase in time as @"Inflorescence"#181 stated above.

As long as a standard is set and followed in regard to submitted growing and climate information and pictures taken, it doesn’t have to be flashy.

Not sure how many I am growing. I know I have over 70 varieties of Caprifig. And working on collecting more this year. I do have a lot of female figs as well. Not sure how many. I don't think a database can ever be complete. As they have so many figs out there and new ones being found/named all the time. But I do think it would help members to have one. I do plan on doing it in the Caprifig section starting next season when they are pushing out profichi and healthy leaves. I already put some name up in the (Varieties Section) Which will be the database.

I believe that where many databases fail, is with incomplete information for each name, and poor, or no photos of leaves, the external fig including the stalk, and clear internals. Also, there needs to be a Caprified and non Caprified possibility in the description and photos area, to make things clear. Good sized, and very clear photos are a must, blurry, out of focus pictures are worthless for good detail. All synonyms also need to be included. For Caprifigs, showing Profichi clusters and the amount of figs in each, I think is also important.
