If he will take lint for the database I'm like....a millionaire.
That's how deep my pockets are...lol

I really liked Lances site when he had it up of course.
Very cool how he had synonyms listed, most had pictures.
But a very well done layout.
It's too bad he took it down.

I agree. Lance's site was very good. And he would fix errors if they brought to his attention. Sad he shut it down.

Am I the only person who asked Rigo how much he wanted for his database project?

Probably not, so are you just gonna keep us in suspense?

My guess is $2k, that would seem reasonable in what must have taken at least a week or two to get up and running.  Not to mention the content by him and others.  There are some pretty good articles on there, just not a lot of them.

Lance mentioned AI changing the game in this area.

Here we go!

I'm getting the hang of it now :)

4FigLovers database was my ‘go to’ when I first started looking at figs. I know he took it down, but wouldn’t that be an amazing database to acquire?

AI is another reason I want to keep this place as hands on and personal as possible. I don’t even understand well. I’m not sure how it’s affected the database world. It’s not something I really understand.

I don't see the point in making one.  There is one on another forum and it's virtually useless as nobody posts any information on it.  Everybody just posts their photos and descriptions in the main forum.  If I need a picture, I just go to Fig Database or do a Google search.

And the problem with FigDatabase is it's user submitted, so some of pictures are just wrong and reinforce belief that something is correct ( true to type) when it's not.

@"Lewi"#16   You have a very good point there.

Social media is packed full of people thinking they have one fig when it is obviously not.
Also it is riddled with names you never heard before that are sometimes obviously a known fig.

It can get very messy having the public update a database.

A council of fig nerds could curate a consortium of ficus carica.

I'll do it tonight and have it uploaded by morning.

It would be a major task to accomplish.
Take a while. but we have time.

I will look for it when I wake. :) On a real note. It is something many want. But are they willing to add to it? To help create it? It would help new and old members. Yes it would take a while. But it would be worth it. I look forward to reading thru it over morning coffee.:)

Well....I am several shots into my Red Breast....it might take longer than morning. lol

It doesn’t need to be complicated. If it’s done list style with general facts about each variety and then tags are used to link the listing to threads with pictures and growing info, it will start to compile itself in a few years.

I figured it would be easier to just translate the entire Italian fig database for everyone. Here it is

Fichi Neri = Dark Figs

Fichi Bianchi = White Figs

That was easier than I thought it would be....

So what is the italian name for the goat figs?
