DMV Spring FigFest May 31st 2025

I hereby donate $30 US currency to Cloth @DCallahan @Gladstone1969 , and @9ah-figlet in the sartorial splendor of a FigFanatic sign up shirt for the fall event. Failing the presence of a spiffy sign up shirt, a standard FigFanatic shirt could always be substituted. For all the good these members do in secret for us ((maybe)) we could make it for the for the Fall Festival. Like that the French school children donated their pennies to send us the Statue of liberty.

Wow! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you @Figless. I haven’t been on in a bit - what a surprise to come back on for that! I actually came on because I wanted @Fig Gazer to know that his giveaway boxes that he donates to the forum went to good use. I will be doing a grafting demonstration and workshop at the DMV Figfest on May 31, and I offered the entire selection of Scion buds to the four winners (one gets the demonstration tree with 3 varieties and 3 winners get to choose two varieties to put on their trees). @JC Figgy donated a few rootstocks. Anyway those scions raised ~$360 for the event!!!! Talk about passing it forward! Love this group.

Oh and I rooted some for myself too! Thank you @Fig Gazer

2025 DMV FigFest (Spring Edition) is nearly here!!! Posted a few sneak peak teasers of the FigFanatic Merch in the Facebook group, maybe we will get a few new members trickling in early :) Dont be shy and forget to say Hi, if you do join up!

Stay Figgy-
Please do say hello! I want to put faces with the names. My wife will be there this time too. It’s going to be a blast.

I better hurry up and make that donation. Those shirts I believe would be for the fall Festival. Poor Fig Gazer I wonder when he's going to get a shirt. I might have to up that donation. Wish I could attend your spring event.

@Fig Gazer won’t be going shirtless ;)

Either way, orders can still make it for the end of May I think

I hope someone posts pics of the event somewhere other than facebook so I can see 😆. A thread here would certainly be appreciated when the time comes

I wanted to highlight some of the 20+ trees I'm donating to the DMV Fig Fest in this thread to entice you to come!

First off is Angelito. My mother tree came from @Fig Gazer, and I'm following his generous example by donating five Angelito rooted cuttings. Discovered in California, this fig has been one of the most highly sought after figs in recent years. It's sweet, fresh intense berry flavor is a bit more complex than other Adriatic type figs. It has ripened well for growers nationwide (does not need the wasp).

Want to win an Angelito, come to the DMV FigFest on Saturday May 31st!

This will fire up the Raffles!!! Super generous and very appreciated! The highly sought after trees definitely help boost the raffle sales to fund the events.

FOR SAINT PATRICK'S DAY I WAS DEACKED OUT IN A DARK GREEN CUSTOM 'FF /FigFanatic t shirt from CANADA protecting me from pinches ! ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHIRTS !!!! THANKS !

Next up is Figo Preto, a Black Madeira type variety that may be earlier and more vigorous without sacrificing any deep rich berry flavor. This late-season variety is best suited to pot culture and may require a headstart to fully ripen the crop.

The cuttings came from @bushdoctor82’s Figo Preto tree when he undertook dramatic pruning to re-shape his mother tree (https://figfanatic.com/threads/pruned-and-reshaped-figo-preto.1232/). Thanks again @bushdoctor82 for sharing these cuttings with the fig community! The cuttings are extremely vigorous—already trying to put on fruit!

Okay time to put in my donation. If it misses in the spring we will always have the Fall Festival. Can't have Fig Gazer going shirtless. BTW @bushdoctor82 those Figo Preto Fig Trees look beautiful, healthy, and vigorous. I am green With Envy.

Next up is HSK Unk, a California seedling discovered by @Figology that has an deep red, sweet concentrated raspberry flavor packaged in a yellowish-green skin. The fig has been ripened without the wasp by growers in Pittsburgh, Maryland, and North Carolina. This is a late season fig best grown in a pot. More info and pictures here: https://figfanatic.com/threads/hsk-unk-2024.122/#post-1666.

The cutting was generously donated by @JC Figgy and is already putting on a fig!
