Scrumptious!
Same. I do question mine being true to type though, because while the exterior looks the same, the interior is more brown on mine than red.I disagree that cavaliere tastes like cherry.
I agree with you on all of those varieties! My cavaliere is true to type for sure but I tasted no cherry. BG and Panachee are as close to strawberry as can be for me. BG being less so. Blava Flor when caprified has this really intense berry flavor that hard to describe. It’s definitely a stone fruit quality maybe mixed with raspberry? NdA doesn’t taste like cherry to me either. Like you said that flavors are affected a lot by growing conditions. Ours just happen to be more similar.Same. Actually, many said to have cherry flavors do not to me. The list above surprised me, especially Panachee which is pure strawberry.
I had one CM Unk, and that had a cherry like flavor. But I’m hesitant to declare it as such until I try more. SMR had way more cherry taste to me than RLBV.
I really think growing environment affects the flavors detected, and sometimes I think peoples’ taste buds are confused, haha, no offense meant, it could be mine. Izbat An Naj tastes neither of pineapple nor of banana here. BG has no cherry here but is a complex berry punch with a strong herbal or grassy note. NdA has zero cherry here, but is similar to Cavaliere.
Blava Flor, which has been compared to cherry, did have it in there, but was not cherry alone.
I think @ktrain has them bothI wish I could give you a comparison..... Maybe someone here has tried both.
Thanks for this wish list of cherry tasting figs.Well: i havent tasted all of these but i have made it my mission to collect and analyze every fig anyone has described as cherry. My current collection:
Negra d'agde (cherry twizzler)
Unk Pastilliere (allegedly the most cherry but needs polination)
Bourjasette Grise (sometimes described as cherry-berry)
Cavaliere (Ross says its what first comes to mind when he thinks cherry fig)
Cherry Pie (in the name)
Cherry Cordial
Cilegia Dolce (means sweet cherry)
Craven's Craving (often said to be strawberry- cherry)
Hative d'Argentiel( berry-cherry)
Italian-258 (sometimes described as cherry)
Red Lebanese Bekka Valley ("bomb of sweet cherry flavor")
Panache (widely described as cherry)
What im looking to pick up eventually:
San Biagio (number 1 on the list, many say cherry)
Angelito (im less interested in this one, but i have some people say blackberry-cherry)
Flatbush Red (someone on the long island fig page descrbied it as "exactly like a cherry")
eve's black cherry (in the name)
sweet and sour cherry
Colonel Littman's Black Cross (ive seen "berry-cherry")
Nuestra Senora del Carmen (NSDC) (cherry-spice)
The ones that I think are most promising: Cavaliere, Unk Pastilliere, Negra d'Agde, Haitive d'Argentiel, Panache, San Biagio, Eve's Black Cherry, Flatbush Red
Let us know when confirmed. I know many would be interested in acquiring this variety myself included. ThanksJANETS UNK . right before it died from goupher girdiling it tasted just like "louden,s cherry cough drops "! still have a 5 gallon tree and a in ground graft . hoping to taste from these without the dying influence to confirm taste this next year . NEVER HAD A FIG THIS CHERRY BEFORE !!!!
Raspberry Latte?I like red raspberry over cherry. Any raspberry nuanced flavored figs? I would like to make a list of them.
can i ask what your climate is?I agree with you on all of those varieties! My cavaliere is true to type for sure but I tasted no cherry. BG and Panachee are as close to strawberry as can be for me. I’m in 9B Mediterranean climatecan i ask what your climate is?
I will say my list is not verified by me personally, its simply based on the opinions i nthe fig community. I intend to set this to bed (for my climate) once and for all![]()
hm interesting, do you have fig wasp? I wonder if flavor difference might be related ot most people trying these figs (with the exception of UP) are having uncaprified versionsI’m in 9B Mediterranean climate
I have them but not all my figs are caprified. Caprification can change some varieties for sure. However things like BG, Black Madeira, I258, Panachee don’t have cherry flavor even when uncaprified.hm interesting, do you have fig wasp? I have wondered about Crema di Fragola. Whenever I look at the great photography of figs at websites like The Fig Hunter and @ChesapeakeFigs, I wonder if I grow the fig, will it look that good. Crema di Fragola looks so good at TFH website, I want to grow it just because of those pictures. If you grow it, please post pics and give your opinions of it.Ok so I got hda, and creme di fragola.. I will possible get San biagio and compare all 3.. thanks Matt for the recommendations…
