Stuck in the stoned age

We have tons of rock piles where they cleaned them from the fields and gardens. I think we grow them around here. I have several huge ones larger than a vehicle in the woods. It’s pretty cool the way trees and stuff grow in and around them. Found a couple of pics. Sort of hard to tell everything since I took these back in the winter. On the one large pile I’ve climbed on top and I’m looking out towards part of the pawpaw patch. They look like skinny shoots going straight up.

If it's one thing we can grow in the south...it's rocks!
No matter how deep, no matter the soil, no matter the time of year.
We are growing rocks like crazy!

Come one come all....GET YOU SOME! lol
I can see why y’all had “chain gangs”. Breaking them rocks in the hot sun. 😓

I grew up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and there are these rock walls that we just always called Chinese walls. My Dad told me that they were built by Chinese slaves during the gold rush. When looking for information about them online, I see that there are some of these walls near San Francisco Bay area. It seems like they want it to be a mystery and say that they don't know who built them. I even saw a TV show about them and they made it sound like these walls could have been built by ancient aliens. I should point out that there were a lot of Chinese immigrants in San Francisco in the 19th century.

I grew up in the Sierra Nevada’s too. Reno/Sparks area.

Free building materials! This is where a beater farm truck would be good to move earth around as needed. Farm Use vehicles are useful. I use all the rocks I dig up here. Some look like petrified wood but no outcrops where theyre directly available. I need more land. I've been eyeing Mt Roger's area of VA since it's such a recreation haven.20251005_165855.jpg

Those are cool rocks!

That's beautiful...... are you going to attempt to move any of that? They seem huge!
I have chipped away at a couple. Maybe try to move some in late winter/ early Spring. One of my neighbors has a mini excavator that he uses to landscape some boulders in his yard, so I think I could move them with his help.

Gotta dig them out first, I dunno it’s crazy, but fun. I keep hoping I might find something, nothing but clay so far.

Although there is some ancient siltstone that I wanna pulverize and throw in my compost pile.

Well, you’re smarter than me, my left shoulder is busted…told you I’m stuck in the Stone Age. I’m thinking about a jack hammer, but I’d love to cut the stone.

Look for something called a wedge and feather set.

You’ll still need to drill holes…. So need a hammer drill… but this should make the splitting way easier. Like gentle taps and no smashy-smashy
