Rarest figs?

There is not much information on all these figs. But to play it safe. I would assume SP and Smyrna until proven otherwise.
My buddy brought a fig to the states back in the 1960's, it's a white fig and he said it's the best tasting fig of his village. It's traveled with him from Sicily to NYC to PA..it's never fruited but he keeps it going because he said one day it might fruit and since it's so delicious and famous from his village--he loves this fig that keeping it alive is worth it. It's not a prolific grower, stay's kind of small but with fairly big leaves. It was one of the eight figs he gave me a while back but it died over the first winter. He said it gets huge like the size of a tennis ball with honey oozing out of it. He told me what it was in Italian but I don't remember, he says in his village it's known as the Mother of all Figs.

Oh--my point in all this was obviously it's a late producing fig but I don't have the heart to tell my buddy it's probably a Smyrna that needs the fig wasp.

Some of the best need pollen. The fact he is growing it that long. Means it is a good one. Grow it. Pollinate it by hand. Post photos when you do. :)

I'll take pics of the fig tree but I've never seen a fig on it, not one in about 20 years I've been looking at it.
I've had zaffiro for 5 years. My main tree only set 2 fruit for the first time late last year. I have some smaller zaffiro trees. 1 of them I let the soil stay on the drier side during June. It probably has 30 figs on a 2 gallon tree and most should ripen. Best to put this type of tree in full sun and don't give it much water, and if it's in the ground, put it in a high spot and never water.

rayray :Sounds like the "MOTHER OF ALL FIGS" needs to come to CALIF. to show it's true self, med climate no frost and wasps ! rNexus :i have AUGUSTA PURPLE 3 DIFF IN GROUND GRAFTS ,SHOULD HAVE A CUTTING OR TWO COME JAN. .

Wait until you see a picture of my 8 month old tree. Its about 9ft tall! I have forced it to begin dormancy. I cant handle any more growth!!!

Sometimes it's difficult for me to find the varieties you're talking about. For some reason, it seems almost impossible to get hold of certain varieties here in Europe, such as GG, Angelito, CC etc.
But maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.
So I often just have to content myself with enjoying your stories and pictures :)

I'll get a cutting from Gino, who lives in Southern Cali?

Is there a difference between Pissaluto and Pissaluto Nero ?
Yes, but I don't know what the differences are. There is also Pissaluto Bianco which RedRockFig says is very under rated. Hoping to taste some fruit of Bianco in a few weeks. I think there are other pissaluto varieties as well.

Are all the Fraccazano's San Pedro types, or are any of them like the Smyrna which requires the fig wasp? Any of them common type?
I have a Fraccazano Blanco that is by far the earliest breba producer of any fig I have ever seen - 15th of June every year. Tastes like a milder Desert King and then follows up with a main crop in Aug that is the same strawberry flavor but the fruit is very juicy.

Did I hear someone say Rionon Santana is rare?!

LOL - technically it is at the moment and in the possible near future Europe will have access to it (fellow member left the States and moved to a well known European country with a pair of RS sticks).

I would say Jesus fig, but the true Jesus fig aka the 'striped version" - maybe 2 people have it in the US from what I've gathered.

Also Milco caprifig - maybe a couple of people have it still but they're civilians (no real online or social media activity).
