Early start of 2025 season

As of now I’m not planning on it, but at this time last year I wasn’t planning on it either - let’s see how I feel around Super Bowl Sunday.

My setup is simple - Mylar hanging from ceiling to floor in corner of room, LED and fluorescent lights somewhat haphazardly hung from ceiling with vegetable, flower and herb seedlings spread around looking for light.

I don't have an early start plan, though a lot of my trees usually do being stored in my garage.
If I ever get around to finishing the green house...they will be in there for the winter.
Now with the rain this weekend...my plans to work on it are dashed. gah!

Who is planning an early start for the 2025 season? What is the plan?
- wake up date?
- grow room setup and location?
- lights, reflective materials, etc…?
I have to if I want to eat figs :) The plan is written up and ready for execution. Multi-stage headstart, depending on the variety and location. For example, I can start figs in my basement grow tent any time, but no earlier than March in my unheated garage grow tent due to humidity issues, as it will be too cold there in February.

I'm hoping to start in early March this year. Basically the same plan as previous years but earlier.... Pop the temporary greenhouses up over the in-ground trees and shove as many potted trees in there as I can fit. Electric heat on thermo-switches.

Warm water on the in-ground tree roots every few days.

It's a PITA, but it works.

It is not easy to keep these greenhouses hot enough in March in your climate, and one has to be careful so they don’t catch fire (… more than one thing must go awfully wrong for that to happen, I guess).

What kind of electric heater do you use?

I've learned the hard way to be careful. GFCI on the heaters and lots of supervision. And you're quite correct, sometimes it's not easy.

And sometimes, there's a wind storm while you're at your kids karate tournament hours away from home.

Now I use radiant oil heaters and fans. Still looking for a better solution. I may need to chrome the inside of my garage

I plan on doing this with my in ground trees also. Last year didn’t get my first ripe fig until sept 28. Would like to shave 3-4 weeks off of that. I’ll try with electric heater but may add a diesel heater if needed.

I found it much beneficial to build my greenhouse mid March. I’m able to enjoy all of my figs early or late varieties. I also do the hot water bath. I bunch them up all in a 5 x 5 temporary greenhouse until end of May with a fan and a heater. I do this every year.

They look happy in there. Mine end up crammed in so tight I often have to just unzip and spray in from outside the door to water them.
