You know you're a fig fanatic when...

They built homes in the old days in New Orleans with basements. They did not know they would fill with water. Even 20 miles away. The water table is to high.
 
These cost an arm and a leg and are not especially huge.... but they are flood-proof.

When I first learned of them I thought possible someone with boat making skills could do it with resin.... or completely bury one of those shells for an in ground pool. Buried shipping container maybe if sealed from the outside first. Food for thought. I know it's lofty.
