What's The Best Honey Fig?

I'm new to this so I have all baby trees. I haven't had any except my one in ground tree that we think is alma but I loved them which is why I now have so many that are still babies all between cutting and 1 year. And white Marseilles was the first one I bought when I started this journey (after my alma)- the first where I did research and read the description and bought it with intention so I can't wait to get fruit from it. I think I'll like honey best. My husband is holding out for berry.

I had a nice little White Marseilles at on time. Was super excited about it until the dog chewed it up… after I ran the dog around the yard yelling and waving a chewed up stick at him he decided my trees weren’t chew toys.

I think so. I read someone describe it as tasting like a really ripe banana. I could see that but there was also a fruitiness to it as well. And with it being very sweet, it made me think of Juicy Fruit gum. Maybe others can chime in with their thoughts.

Are you talking about the Hollier or Campaniere tasting like juicy fruit?

@betdempster that is exactly the reason I’m trying to keep my number down. I could easily see me having a huge number and thinking of reasons to keep every one.

I know ...they are all different and I have raised them all. Iim convinced every leaf is because I said a nice word to it or told it how proud I am. And I get so much back. I couldn't get through my work day if I couldn't turn around from my desk and see them. Makes me a much happier person

I still have it. I am starting to think I should take an air layer from it before I give it to him. Actually I just thought of a better idea. I could give him my Beer's Black because I also have a VdB.

What is your climate like? I have an interest in some of the lesser know varieties that Bass sells. There is one called Golan White that is a strain of Byadi. I wonder if anyone here grows it. I would like to trade for some GW cuttings.

I want to clarify this a bit more. I think there are a lot of great ones that are probably better than WM, but I notice that honey figs thrive in higher heat environment. For cooler area like the Bay Area, we get really good complex berry figs. White Marseilles has that fruity, lemony complexity here. It’s also big with jelly like consistency. It’s almost like the skin wasn’t there. It tastes like a honey lemon jelly. I only have tried WM from a decades old tree though, not sure how figs from younger tree would be like.

I believe Rosy has hot arid climate. Probably a border between hot Mediterranean and hot desert? Correct me if I’m wrong.

My climate is dry with hot weather in the summer. So I can get sunburn and spoiling in some honey fig varieties. For example, Izbat An Naj often does not ripen here well.

I’ve seen Golan White on his website. It does have a bit of a similar look to White Marseilles which agrees with what bushdoctor62 mentioned above. I do not grow it myself though.
