What is happening???

These figs were growing great … got roots and top leaf growth and then whabam… shriveling up and leaves curl and drop?!?!
They are in sunlight and hydrated but I do not understand why all of a sudden… smh
This is the 5th plant this week. I’m heartbroken
Looking for advice for a newbie… this phase is not
For the faint of heart
Idk 🤷‍♀️

Do you see any gnat flies in your soil? Try laying some sticky yellow traps to determine if you do, also can water with mosquito bits to kill the larvae.
 
Should i
1. Cut off dying leaves and try again with cutting or just dump it
2. Pull out plant from pot and see what’s happening inside?
3. Leave it and pray 🙏
 
When I inspect soil I will check for bugs but I have not seen any and it is only 5 plants that this happened too . Rest are going pretty good
In picture the plants on cups almost all did similar dying

How did you root them? Was there a transplant involved? What rooting medium did you use? What kind of light are they getting? Are you fertilizing them and if so with what at what concentration? Also where in the pot are you watering them?
 
For me if a cutting wilted after up potting it was almost always watering too much after up-potting. I've gotten to the point where I up pot into moistened soil just the same amount of moisture I originally root in but I don't water at all - and even if the cutting is a little dry, it gives the roots a chance to unfurl and reach for the moisture in the soil I just put it in. I sometimes a week before I water it any at all. And when I water for the first time I really only give it just a few ounces and I put it down the sides away from the cutting and where the root ball is. I don't start watering with larger watering till it puts out a new set of leaves usually ... The more leaves it has the more water it seems to soak up and the more it can handle so I really try to wait. I have loved too many to death.
 
I just did that today - it would have been their third watering so I sat like six of them in kelp water with a little Epsom salt for a half an hour. None of them wilted. So next week it will be dilute fertilizer.. do you use fish emulsion? I've ordered some. I don't know if it's ok to use that on young cuttings or wait till they are bigger?

You can use fish fertilizer inside but it might be smelly and attract unwanted insects. Is the weather warm enough in TX to get the cuttings hardened off. I usually wait until all of my trees are outside and then drown them in diluted fish emulsion.

Yes mine are all outside- even the smaller cuttings (as long as they are 8 weeks and above) because we are in the 70-80's daily. There will be two nights coming up in 48-49 range and I'll tarp the baby cuttings for those nights only but at this point it's "sink or swim, babies" and they are all doing great even with most nights in mid 50's. They like the filtered part day sun and the warmth during the days. Newer cuttings are completely shaded right now but in two weeks they will go to part day sun. All my last year trees got the tops chopped off so I can start scaffolds.

So I guess if the fish fertilizer won't be too much for the cuttings that are at 8 weeks, they are all getting funky fish this weekend 😋.

Your growing season is in progress. I’ll have to until late Mar to start the shuffle, up potting, root pruning etc . If the lows are constantly 50 degrees, my trees stay outside as well.

If no flies then most likely root rot, over watering. Try carefully taking the cutting out with whatever roots are left on there. And repot into a better draining soil, maybe a pinch of mycorrhizae on the roots to help them recover a bit

I think it is over watering… no gnats I had pulled out plants and more had roots but soil was too wet. I added mycorrhiza and sown more perlite
