What changes or improvements are you making to your rooting process this year?

Too lazy to write it again, I took a screenshot of an older post from 2021 😅

Direct pot worked the best, I dont need to see roots or water for first 4 to 6 weeks, and no fungus gnats too.

My cuttings get dipped in root hormone then get rooted in 3x12 bags with soil. I get good success rates then they get up potted into my grow tent till spring. Works everytime. Recently my nephew went to Lazio got me one cutting only, got it rooted and potted. Can’t wait for spring.

Not sure about all that perlite in the bottom of the tree pot, coarse layers on the bottom of a pot raises the perched water level in the pot. That's the opposite of what we want.
You are correct about that part. There's plenty of controversy of what you're suggesting. I was never a fan of layering my soil, mostly because I didn't think it needed it. A well draining soil has worked best for me. My main point was to give credit to MJFIGS for his innovative idea, no so much which soil people prefer.

The first couple years I rooted cuttings without bagging the pots it was a constant battle to eradicate fungus gnats. Bagging the pots also has the added benefit of allowing for bottom watering with syringe so the soil surface dries down and roots search deeper into the soil for moisture.

Technically… AZfig mentioned it first, and AscPete said others had been doing it for many years on F4F. 😁 If we’re gonna be technical.

But no doubt it was MJFigs who really popularized it and that is for sure where all the current YouTubers got it from & did not give credit.

Bro! Where are you getting 3x9 bags? EJ Bags in Scarborough shut down and since then I don't have a bag guy

The second reason I like pops... use parafilm on top... no gnats

The first reason... I can get lazy and not worry about water.

Here is MJFIG's method, popularized by Ross and Notorious Fig.
I've done this and definitely believe there's a big advantage in not having to pot up. First pot up transition shock is where I've experienced the most losses. This method entirely skips this. You can keep the tree until in this until it's so established that it's not a worry.
