Welcome... everyone!

Thank you for the kind invitation. I met Figless at CRFG San Diego scion exchange yesterday where he kindly shared his wisdom. I am in the middle of trial an lots of error in figuring out which combination of figs works best in my microclimate in San Diego (1000 meter from beach on a rise with marine layer moisture and lack of heat). In our limited space, which is shared with avocados, loqauts , cherimoyas, macademia nuts, prunus, dogs etc., we have allocated space for 4 in ground and 10 potted figs. As Figless indicated, the in-ground Black Mission fig (early error) has been completely top graphed with 7 other varieties - 2 of which were just replaced with Col de Dame Grise and Borgisotte Grise. One of these decades I will figure it all out.
Cheers

Well hello and a big welcome to you @t_corey89 It’s really nice to have you here. You’ve joined at a good time, spring’s around the corner and there will be so much to talk about with figs and gardening. ☕🍰

If it was too easy it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun! 🤩

You mention the lack of heat. Not something that comes up too often with California growers but I get it. Figs like heat… @The Figtator had similar issues when he was growing in Santa Barbara some time ago. He placed trees against concrete walls to take advantage of the thermal mass. Something to consider perhaps

Thank you all! It’s been crazy here the last few days. Flooded the front of the house changing out the dishwasher, then my girlfriend flooded the back of the house trying to unclog her shower drain….

Anyways, glad to see some familiar names! Looking forward to some warmer weather here in DFW. Hoping to get some good figs this year! I have high hopes as my JHA and I258 grew to the top of the wooden fence here last year. I was gifted a Smith tree from Rudy! So I’m pretty excited about that one too!

Hopefully your crazy time is over, when I lived up north my basement flooded so my furnace and Washer & Dryer were all under water.
Not to mention my daughter had her room down there too.
We lost everything under 4' of water...my pool table was shot too.

I'm pretty pumped for this season to start, a few things I need to get done first though.
Always something. 😂
