Unk Yellow Greek and…

Your tree is very productive. That impresses me. Now I’m nervous. Others see your pictures and and the comments for both varieties and now I’m hoping when the sale starts their fingers are going to be faster than mine. 🤣😂🤣😂
You should start a thread asking everyone to share the best purchases from OTBP. With all of his varieties, people will find many other excellent figs to purchase!

I grow Unk Yellow Greek from OTBP. My tree was purchased as a rooted cutting at Bill’s end of season sale in 2023, and is in an 8-gallon pot.

I prune severely so here is what it looked like when I pulled it out of storage March 31, 2025. I notched it to encourage scaffolds to form.

It put on figlets by mid-June (note the breba that I wasn’t able to taste).View attachment 15666
It grew well (this is end of July).

The figs began ripening by mid-August with small yellow figs with a pink interior. The flavor wasn’t memorable, but I’ve come to learn that the honey figs flavor improves with age. If it helps, I liked it better than Iranian Candy figs from a similarly aged tree.View attachment 15670
It’s relatively productive—this photo is from mid-September. The bees loved them so they must be relatively sweet.

I’m interested in notching next spring.

Do you do prune that heavily at the end of every season and then notch every spring, like a routine?

No, I hope to not prune as heavily this year.

I was following the 3-yr pruning regimen (1st year whip, 2nd year form scaffolds, and 3rd fruiting branches off scaffolds). I ended up doing yr 2 pruning twice to reset scaffolds lower.

This coming growing season, I plan to use more pinching to encourage fruiting (and minimize hard pruning).

Thanks! (I’m trying to learn how to prune figs!)
