I know where one grows in my area, it's super sweet, like beyond sweet like pure sugar but the open eye is a terrible one--it's not a splitter but the open eye is so open and deep it just goes bad. It's a pretty fig though, the picture doesn't do it justice, the ostiole is a pinkish/red color.Yeah, I tried growing it for a few seasons.
Never got a fig, they all burst open and spoiled.
It's also a cold hearty variety that gets hundreds of figs. The wood is also very dense, and hard.
Other then the open ostiole, for me anyways it's the only fig that I get a reaction from, it burns my lips and mouth to the point it's like I burned myself eating a really hot pizza and got the cheese stuck to the roof of my mouth. The only thing I can think of is the skin/stem has more latex in it than other figs. And it's not like I had unripe figs, they were extremely ripe when I had the reaction.
After that, I just let the little tree I had die. It wasn't worth it.
