Trying out Fig-pop. Some guidance needed

I crack the lid on the totes everyday to get a fresh air exchange, doing this, rot has almost been eliminated. I’ve got cuttings that have been in a tote since late Nov and they still haven’t rotted or rooted. That is an accomplishment 😅.

I’m not the biggest fan of figpops just because they add another uppot in the mix which can cause stress. I’ve had way more of these rot in my or get root rot then the hybrid fig pop method. The only reason I did figpops this year was because of room. I like starting with the 4x9 wrapped in a bag because that can get me 4-6 months down the road to either uppot, trade, or sell. It just makes things simpler.

Interesting on the fertilizing from day 1- does that mean you moisten the soil with water that has diluted fertilizer in it? Or you add it later?

Do you use 1/2 strength fertilizer or a different strength?

Not criticizing, just trying to learn how you do it. 🙂
AscPete did that: 1/2 tsp of MG All purpose fertilizer and 1/4 tsp of Epsom Salt in a gallon of water to moisten the soil. You can probably use kelp fertilizer if you do organics only.

I’ve started adding cal-mag, kelp, silica gold, great white, gnatrol, and weak fig fuel to the water that I wet my media with. It’s been effective so far, no differences in rot.

I also follow a similar regimen that Ascpete has for fertilizing my potted figs and quantities. It’s worked well. I add DE and the crushed rock oyster to the mix. I took that from Ross.

ASCPete provides an “organic” alternative to fertilizing potted trees.
