Trophy photos

Post a picture of a tree you started this year that you are proud or excited to grow.
This is Mehdi's Famous Fig. I'm very happy and excited to grow this heritage variety from @figologist . I started the rooting process the day I received it from the initial variety release. Around 1/7/26View attachment 19412
I haven’t started mine yet but I’m probably most excited for this variety myself. My best buddies family is from Iran so it will mean a lot to share with him.

I am pretty proud of this LSU purple I started on 11/1/25 in a fig pop. I up potted most of my cuttings to tree pots, but I up potted one in to an empty 2 liter soda bottle. It’s great to get to see the roots still and the top growth on this one is over 2 and a half feet. I also included a group shot of the cuttings under my light. There are a few other cultivars that I started in November that are as big or bigger then this one, but I am really digging the upcycled 2 liter bottle and will do more of them next cutting season.

Wow. Looks great. Let us know how easy it is to remove that fig from the bottle. I also used a 2-liter bottle, but bent the sides square. I'm wondering how hard it will be to get the root mass out of those feet at the bottom.

I will reply to this thread when I give it a go. This is my first year rooting cuttings so it’s all a learning experience for me at this point. I like your idea of bending the sides square.

My thought was to keep the roots from circling. One root went straight up a corner. Lol

I also used a 1 liter bottle. This Niagara Black took off quickly. I guess it might qualify for this thread.

What light system do you have?

Also love the idea of upcycling items like soda bottles etc.

Just let it dry out a bit and it will come out fine. I’ve used them before. Worse case scenario a box cutter will slice through that easily.

I am so proud of my two Smiths. I killed many cuttings on the way to these as many of you know. They were up potted to 5 gallon nursery pots three weeks ago and are still alive. So I think we've made it. They aren't the fanciest ones... I've got others with fancy names and pedigrees. But these are the ones I worked so hard for. They are supposed to do really well here in South Texas so early fall one will go in the ground.

Looks great!!
Is that diatomaceous Earth that you applied at the base? If so, how do you water it moving forward. I'm trying to come up with ways to prevent fungus gnats indoors
No, it is perlite. I cover the soil to try to keep fungus nats away when inside. I put that on top my vegetable starts also. I do add some diatomaceous earth in when I up pot. Fig Boss says the silica is a good add in.

I have an agrobrite t5 fluorescent 4ft 8 bulb. It’s working pretty great for my 100 + up pots in that area. To be honest the only reason I have this light/ am using this one is it was cheap ( $50 with the bulbs included) on Facebook marketplace. i just grabbed 2 fig trees out of my garage to wake up early and have them underneath it as well.. I feel like I could raise the light up and get more underneath of it. It’s 40,000 lumens.. kinda want to get a par meter to see where I should hang it, but the distance I have it at now seems to work.
