The highest temps tolerance?

Im really concerned. Last night my cat pulled the temperature probe out of my grow box, without my knowing it. So all night, the heat mats continued to heat, and this morning when I checked, temps reached 98-106+F in some places.

Is this a death sentence for them?

The box contained both fig pops and bagged tree pots. Most of them already had well-developing root systems and started leafing out.

Depending on the duration of exposure to high heat, your rooted plants have a good chance of surviving / recovering.

Any damage is already done, so now it is just a waiting game. I would just recommend to let them recover in stable conditions. I would not prune dead leaves, up pot, or bring in other variables that might further stress them.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat pushing its own rooting protocol...
Your cuttings may have experienced some "grilling" at the very bottom of your bags and pots, but even if that occurred, it's very likely that due to the temperature gradient in your pops/pots, the roots that were a bit higher up did not incur much damage. Especially if your substrate was not too wet (air is a great insulator). Your cuttings will most likely be fine!
Maybe consider taping down the cable coming from your temp. probe?

Thank you so much, John and Eric, for your steadying responses and recommendations. Very helpful. My substrate is on the drier side, as i started the rooting over a month ago, so a lot of moisture has been used up.

And Ive taped down the cable and now secured my rooting box, so the cat has no access to it at all.

Ill baby them for now and will post an update, when I get better sense of how they are in the aftermath.

Thank you @Figlove, for the video - i look forward to watching it!

@FigLab You're welcome! That video helped me to realize exactly how resilient figs are -- especially with regard to heat! Good luck!
Wow, his high temps were like 104 and 106!

... though some of his cuttings died in this experiment - which is more than his 1st video (when he had them on his low temp sunbeam mat) 🙄

Well, we shall see.

I would say at those temps and duration the damage is likely minimal. Just stay the course and I’d be surprised if any die… unless they were already stressed, in which case this could push the over the edge, but even that is a bit unlikely. The most important thing as always is moisture management.
