The first year I'm getting fruit from my currants

Not much, but I'm proud. Hey I grew these from sticks...
Still potted until we move....
So I either had fruit last year and didn't beat the birds to it, or this is a first.

I'm sure I'm either picking the white too soon because I'm afraid they'll be eaten, OR, they are just small because they are potted and first year they've given me fruit.
This is their 6th year.

Red Lake
White Imperial.

I would love to REALLY get these going. I'm in zone 7b East TN

Wow, that's really early. Up here, mine will be ripening in July. Currants prefer cooler summers; zones 4-6 are best for them. Perhaps heat affects the yields in your case. Up here, my currants have been very productive since year two... loaded... I've read that Golden Currant is the most heat tolerant and actually thrives in heat. May be worth looking into getting.

Well I grow alot of things here that aren't great for here, but they grow lol. Like my honeyberries. I grew my currents from just a bare 6" stick , so I'm counting rooting times and growing and up potting, etc. You might be too. I will look at that one..I'm actually pretty happy that I'm getting fruit at all !
