Sunburn?

For some reason I have it in my head that YLN will sunburn more as a yellow fig and might need shading from the western, afternoon sun. Has anyone noticed this? I don’t have it in the ground yet, but am pondering the best placement.
 
If it acclimated there it shouldn’t make a difference. The only reason I would imagine sunburn could happen is if they go from shade to full sun abruptly.

Even in that case, I’ve only ever seen leaves with sun damaged. Even in south Italy. I know Anthony, TheMillennialGardiner is big on shade cloth but he’s also using it in part to mitigate disease pressure brought on by rain combined with the heat.
 
Obviously, I’m in a much different climate, but for me once they harden off, there’s no amount of sun that I can give them that’s too much.

It might be worth some experimenting with shade cloth to see how the same varieties perform under different conditions. Under cultivation your trees may well indeed benefit from some level of shade cloth.
 
Yellow figs can be a bit more sensitive to intense sun, especially in the afternoon. I’d suggest a spot that gets morning sun with some afternoon shade if you can swing it. It'll help keep the leaves healthier and prevent any sunburn issues.
 
I get sunburn on Dottato family figs, I don’t get it on YLN or Byadi. Dottato family are like Peter’s Honey, Izbat An Naj, Rigato Del Salento.
 
That fig was simply a splitter here in Georgia, It did not last long in my collection.
Too bad though, I really wanted to try it. Bummer.

Sorry to hear it split for you! I had one a few years ago that was vigorous and productive for a young tree, but it died in a harsh freeze. I think YLN’s size and color will add some nice variation to the orchard.
