Starting out and growing.

As we are just starting out together. I must say. I have read many post across social media about the value of information one place or another has. We must remember that information was posted by members. The members make a group great whether it's a forum or some social media group. Yes it helps having the right mods and admin. But in the end. It is the members. So to those that have joined. Thank you. In the near future your post will be read. So give them something to read and learn from. :)

I had read an old thread on the vBulletin community forum about forums like this dying, and this comment was made:

“It is estimated that about 1% of visitors to forums will become active on the site. This is after about 8-10% of visitors actually complete registration. Small focused communities are the outliers here. They tend to convert more visitors to registered users if they have good information sharing.

The more traffic that you can get from people interested in your topic, the better your odds.”

Quality information seems to be key. But while it’s the information that causes them to visit your site, I think it’s the people who get them to stay. Good info, easy to navigate & find said info, and good people— that’s what makes a good forum.

I agree with all of the above, I was heavily involved years ago in Gamer communities where thousands came and went.
Even then we had a core number that stuck around.
The Gamer Planet was my main place, unfortunately I just found out it is gone..not sure why.
Anyway...this is why I encourage people to share their pics and experiences.
At some point when you google a variety we will come up in the search results which will help us grow.

Yep. As we get sorted out her on the new platform I’m hoping… with the help of everyone here…. to organize the information repository. Mike has been building a model for this with the caprifig section. (Very nicely may I say) I’d like to see other areas of interest documented as well. Decision will need to be made on the best way to organize it.

I’ve been noodling ideas in my head of a “community library”.

The reason I say “community library” is that one of the larger libraries in the city is not that far from me. In addition to being a good big library full of well organized and easy to access information, they also have community events and serve as a place to host creative gatherings and social events. They have community rooms where i’ve seen things like scheduled 3-D printing demonstrations… Gamer meet ups, and how to seminars. And yes, there are also several public areas where people can just hang out and talk about whatever. Share stories of the days events and tell jokes. I should go take pictures. It’s been too long since I went there
