Spring fertilizing

I'm located in zone 6A. When do I start fertilizing my figs, and when I do should I use a heavy nitrogen one only, a balanced one, or both?
 
Not in 6A but would think you would start as most. After last frost. Maybe a member in your zone will chime in? Also what medium are you using? That can help members recommend the options for you.
 
Is your question more directed to the NPK shift throughout the season to maximize fig production - as in what do you start with, then what do you change it to when it’s setting fruit, etc.
