Small victories and a loss.

So far this rooting season I have 2 figs showing/starting to root. A CdD Noir showed roots super quick and my 2node Black Madeira cutting started showing beginning of roots today. Small victories. My first white tx everbearing cutting I checked today and it rotted, so I have a loss for the season. The tx everbearing have some age on them so figured I may need to try a couple, but still a loss.

I’m not too worried about it. As long as this one keeps chugging along I’ll be good. The w tx everbearing I have several cuttings on so I get to try a few times. Not sweating it. I had a feeling the soil was too wet on that particular cutting, but I left it just to know for sure since I have more.

Congrats on the wins. Sorry about the loss. Good thing you have several other cuttings. It always sucks when they fail to root.

It might be due to age.

Last night I check on a really thin Lda cutting to make sure everything was kosher, and I heard they can be hard to root. Lo and behold it had two roots just barely starting. I am beginning to think this may be the first time I have more successes than failures!
And you have a 100 teachers and people supporting you here, when you have any questions along the way! 😁

Oh I always have questions haha. Most of them were just noob fears, but most the time @Inflorescence gives me some information and tells me what amounts to “have patience” lol. Most other questions that weren’t brought on by reading the forum were answered by reading the forum.

Well I was starting to get worried as many of my cuttings are being really slow to root. Today I looked and found a root in my Moroc Noir container. Seems everytime I start feeling bad or worrying too much another one shows. Still have to work on my patience, but it’s getting better haha.

Did some digging to make sure my Black Madeira cutting didn’t rot. The top of the cutting by looked dehydrated so I thought it might be dying. Nope! It had about a quarter inch long root bundle starting at the bottom. I carefully repotted it and now time to sit back and hope it grows.

Are you planning special ripening tactics for that one?
Even here in Ga. it was late and I would end up tossing a lot of figs that didn't have time to ripen.
I'm too busy for early starts and extending the season. :)

Yes I plan to wake it up early and if need be to keep it awake in my house. I have a lot of time on my hands.

The flavor is worth it, I just can't dedicate the time right now.
I will revisit it at some point though. :)
I hope so. Really though just having one is enough for me right now. It’s been the fig I’ve heard about since the beginning and always hear everyone should at least try one/have one. Was my first cutting and first failure so I’m holding a grudge you could say.

I remember having some issues getting that one to root, but I finally got it.
I do still have Black Tuscan, I'll keep it around.
But even that one is pretty late.
