Seedling plug trays with domes

I'm getting ready to start seeds. Last year I got some of these 72 plug trays that came with humidity domes. I really like the idea of keeping some of the humidity (and heat) in but even sterilizing my mix, I've never been able to use domes without getitng the white fuzzies growing in there and causing problems... Even with vents open.

Does anyone actually use these domes? If so do you have this problem?

I use clear totes, similar to domes, leave the lid open a little bit. So if I forget to leave it open for a while still have some airflow. I also sprinkle some fine vermiculite on top to keep moisture. If I forget put the lid back on, no big deal. Once the seed germinated, no more lid. I presoak pepper, tomato, eggplant seeds, so they normally only take 3-5days to germinate once in pots. Very short amount of time with lid on. No fuzzy issue. Also easy on pre dementia people like me😆

Only problem I have had with the domes.
Is they are normally not tall enough.
I do have some that are taller that I use.
I leave the vents open half way and no fuzzy stuff.
What medium are you using?

Sterilized Promix…. Because I have it handy. I know I should probably use something more water retentive

I have one of these going as we speak.
I like it.

Wow so exciting but for me this year will be with no vegetable garden. Last season I had a rat problem which led to more rat problem when figs were ripening. I’m gonna have to lay back on the garden this year. 😞
Sorry to hear, Rats can be very hard to deal with.
