saving tomato seeds

I started seed saving for the 1st time.  had no idea how easy it is.  I started Gialla and Cuore 3 days ago and this afternoon it is fermenting.  Yesterday I did Grossi.  they should begin fermenting in a couple of days.  anybody else start seed saving yet?   we're getting some good amount of rain on tuesday so tomorrow i'll check if there's any tomatos almost ripe so the won't get spoiled in the rain and start splitting.

I forgot to ask how long do I ferment them before I can pack them up?
 
I have never saved seeds Teresa, but I should be.
More now than ever.
I just don't trust much of what you buy in the store these days.
So to keep saving your own every year is a smart move.

I'm going to start. :)
 
Teresa... you're starting with some great tomatoes! I've been eating them all day long for months now. I've been fermenting seeds for a long time and I think it really helps with stopping disease.... despite that it;s a bit gross... oh well

@ktrain... I need to get you some of my generations old, peasano tomato seeds. I won't toot my own horn... Just saying..... they taste as good as they look

I grew those one year. My daughter was six-years-old at the time, swore she hated tomatoes until she tasted these tiny tomatoes. Now they loves them.

Right on! They're poppable and plentiful. Did you get many volunteers the next year?
 
I've grown Tiny Tim tomatoes which are not much bigger and the only tomato I can seem to keep alive indoors over the winter.
@ZomVee - How big does the plant get? Does it produce well? I want to get the best tomato production in the basement hydro setup.

It's a monster, it crawled all over the place. It seemed to have these bunches ripening all the time. I stomped it back some, the garden was a battle zone this year!

Teresa what about rooting some cuttings of your [font='Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]Cuore, and Grosso tomato plants throughout the summer? Since almost all tomato plants must be thinned of some branches, rooting cuttings just naturally fits into tomato cultivation. Also @ZomVee Paisano tomatoes would probably lend themselves to starting from seed then continuing with cuttings all season long.[/font]

I wouldn't say that. Like the fruit the growth is delicate, smaller leaves, when planted in the ground it went everywhere. Yeah, but I think you could prune it, no?
