Rooted Cutting Shipping

Usually when I get a rooted cutting delivered it will look a little wilted from being in the box. I've noticed some of the sellers only ship on Monday or Tuesday so that they don't sit in a hot warehouse or truck over the weekend. In the spring when it wasn't that hot I thought this was silly. I recently bought an I258 from a seller that states on their page that they always ship on Fridays. After receiving this cutting I am now appreciating those sellers that ship on Mondays and Tuesdays. I don't know if this is normal or if it is because they shipped on Friday and it was in a hot truck or warehouse over the weekend. Usually when I receive a rooted cutting and it looks wilted, I put it in a shaded window (not in direct sunlight) in the air conditioned house at 68F for 3 days. Every time in 1 or 2 days the plant perks up and looks great. This is the I258 on the 4th day of being in the window(took it outside for the pic). I thought that it might die. It's doing good now and has recovered. I am just posting this because you might want to stay away from sellers that don't clearly state that they ship at the beginning of the week, especially in summer heat. I gave the seller good feedback when I got the plant because I thought it would quickly perk up like the others did, and since it is doing well now I am happy with the purchase.
(I know the instructions to put the plant in the shade for 2 weeks. It's been in the 90's here and a plant in this condition I think would have died outdoors in the shade here.)

Dang that’s a tough break. Some sellers will ship trees too early also before they are rooted and hardened roots. I want to see several roots poking out of the bottom first. I tend to over water my trees and a few ounces extra doesn’t change the shipping much if at all. Some sellers however want the lightest weight possible so they run on the dry side and can cause some issues shipping in summer. Hopefully it perks up in a day or two, sometimes these can take a couple weeks to regrow new roots.

It has perked up. It looks good now. For a while I thought it wasn't going to make it.

So I blame the shipper for this. Packing is an art, and those who skimp get results like this, even if it perks up. 3 weeks ago I sent a fig through priority mail to rural Texas. It decided to take the scenic route from Portland to Fort Worth to Dallas to Shreveport LA and then back into Texas. 9 days. Leaves looked perfect. Buyer messaged to me and said it looks great and is already putting on new growth. Regardless of the temps, if the soil is kept moist, you generally don't get wilting. But then again, I always ship on Monday or Tuesday =)

Glad to hear the tree is doing well.
I do try to plan for the shipping days, but I drop off at an access point.
So...it will sit in CVS at a controlled temp. until UPS arrives Monday to pick it up.
But I always drop off on Sunday.
I have been the recipient of quite a few broken trees because they were not secured in the box well enough...sucky.

Here are the other rooted cuttings that I bought this year from online nurseries. The one all the way to the left is from Trees of Joy. The one in the middle and the one on the right are from Coastal Fig Company. The little one up front is Violeta from Kremp and I got that one on the same day as I got the wilted I258 and it was so healthy I up potted it on the 2nd or 3rd day and put it right out into the Texas heat (direct sun) and it's thriving. BMKK from Kremp should be delivered tomorrow and that is the last rooted cutting that I buy this year.

But wait… you haven’t made it to airlayer season yet when everyone starts having those ready 😅
