I've been looking forward to trying this one introduced by @Kid Fig a while back... I think I'm going to get my chance soon. I was walking the trees earlier and noticed this... I'm pretty excited... I bagged it up and hopefully get a taste soon

I am wondering... some figs change colour quite a while before they're ready to ripen.... I'm not sure how long it is for this fig. Maybe the kid has some intel on this for me

Please don't mind the spots.... I took the pic just after it got spritzed with water....

Nice color. Never heard of this variety. Hope it tastes great.

That’s a beautiful looking fig. Is it in a container? If it was me and it was in a container it would be under lock and key in the basement when I’m not home or during the night when I went to bed. I wouldn’t temp fate leaving it alone. 😬

WOW - look at that beaut!

It's awesome seeing how she looks in other areas.

Definitely pick when drooping and you can let it hang for a few days more untill it becomes jelly bag soft.

This fig happens to take on slightly different skin tones at a time - the brebas can look different as well but my favorite color it can take is a red leather/burgundy color on the skin that I don't see in other figs.

I also noticed that now that the tree is more mature it ripens alot faster than before so don't be surprised if it could take a full week from now to ripen - this season was the first time for me that it ripened in like 4-5 days from skin color change.

Here's one where It actually took on a more red flesh color in the center as opposed to pinkish-amber.

I noticed the brebas flesh is always an amber pink but the main cam go more red.View attachment 12083View attachment 12084View attachment 12085

Those pics are so freaking hot! I hope I can do it justice here!

So far, so good. I think I just need to keep the critters away...

*Note... This is early. I took a hit in spring with the weather and right now this 2 year old Rionon S is ripening mains earlier than Florea.... I don't know if it's an anomaly but I'm happy to have it now.

Good times! :)

Considering it'll be Joe's first Rionon I totally agree with you Ter!

I have had a beetle invasion and I'm not talking about Pau Johnl George Ringo either and they went after my Rionon - I got Fig Beetles which I consider better than having BFF (so far...).

It's a seedling find from Cali. I'm very happy just to prove it prathenocarpic. Anything else beyond that is a bonus... I'll continue to post on how it behaves...

I am honored that you were able to prove it was Parthenocarpic - I've gotten a few Cali seedlings and they aren't turning out so good as pictutred (most likely caprified pics).

And soon you'll be able to prove my pics aren't caprified - except one which was the first one I started a thread about (ever) because it was gushing honey like water and haven't had one like that since.

Every creature around my property knows when my figs are ripening, usually before I do.
If we're looking at up to a week of hang time I need to think of a better way to protect this.... Things are really starting to ripen around here and I'm not the only one who's excited

Don't mock me! :ROFLMAO:
We're all in this together..lol
I've got the same problems as you.
All of a sudden the deer decided they wanted to eat as many leaves, tips and figs as they could. 0 problems with deer this year until a few days ago. Just put up a temporary fence to keep them out. They were eating A LOT. We've got possums, squirrels, racoons, foxes, birds, wood rats, deer, rabbits and who knows what else. I will be building a greenhouse netted structure over the main fruiting rows next year

It's bizarre to me that anything wants to eat the leaves and buds with all that latex

They’re fattening up before winter comes. Anyway it could be worse a momma bear could stop by with her young’ns

I know. Deer are desperate creatures. They seem to eat almost anything. But I think they do really like the leaves. This pic is from 30 min ago. I trimmed a bunch of leaves a few days ago. Nice and dried. The deer came back 3 times. I'm literally working 25ft away. Not a good sign....20250823_144816~2.jpg

3 times and you missed? 🤣😂 Need to practice some venison is tasty…lol.

I've have had no creature problems here in 5b. I don't think any of the wildlife knows what the figs are yet and even the Japanese Beetles have not bothered them. They have all done their damage to my grape arbor as they do every year. Hope this lasts for a long time.
